Lin Hinnigan, Chief Executive of the Youth Justice Board, said:

The inspection report shows Wetherby is a well-run YOI, with dedicated and resilient staff, who are committed to securing good outcomes for the boys in their care.

The safety of young people is our priority and we recognise that reducing violence is a key area for improvement. We are already working with NOMS on a programme of reform which will help establishments to better meet the needs of the smaller but more challenging cohort of young people now in custody, including at Wetherby YOI.
