Lin Hinnigan, Chief Executive of the Youth Justice Board, said:

We are very concerned that Islington YOT’s work to keep young people safe or protect the public remains poor, despite the efforts of the local authority with YJB support since 2014. It is particularly troubling that the YOT’s poor oversight of young people involved in gangs or serious youth violence could put both themselves and others at risk.

To support Islington even further to make the required improvements, we have deployed a senior YJB manager to Islington YOT with immediate effect. We have also escalated concerns to senior leaders in the Council.
