Workshops in Tamil Nadu to end violence against women

Hosted by the British Deputy High Commission Chennai the workshops will be held in Chennai from 18 to 23 November.

British Deputy High Commission (BDHC) Chennai is hosting a series of learning & sharing workshops in Tamil Nadu to end violence against women (VAW) next week from 18 to 23 November.

Bharat Joshi, British Deputy High Commissioner, Chennai said:

Preventing and tackling violence against women underpins much of the UK’s work across India. These workshops are aimed at sensitising three groups of officers who have a crucial bearing on preventing and tackling VAW – police, legal, judicial. They build on our wider projects in India with women and girls and civil society organisations.

Workshop sessions will include VAW-related legislation (domestic violence, sexual offences & sexual harassment) and case studies. Sessions will offer batches from across Tamil Nadu, both men and women, the knowledge and tools required to better understand, contextualise and respond to VAW cases to ensure speedier, improved access to justice for survivors and potential victims. Sessions are meant to support existing and long-standing efforts by state agencies in Tamil Nadu such as the Women’s Development Corporation, State Judicial Academy, Legal Services Academy and Police Academy.
