Winter sports get extra funding in run up to next Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games

£443,200 extra cash for British teams to help medal push in 2014.

The winter sports of bobsleigh, skiing, snowboarding and para alpine skiing will get additional investment to help with final preparations for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Sochi in 2014.

UK Sports announcement today follows its annual review of its investment in winter sports. The extra funding is targeted at those sports with the best chances of success in Sochi.

Sport Minister Hugh Robertson said:

British athletes achieved great success at London 2012 and we want to keep that momentum going in the four years to Rio. We are setting ambitious targets with our sports as we want to ensure that our athletes are the best prepared in the world. Today’s boost for winter sports will also help us look to better Team GB and ParalympicsGB’s performance in Vancouver in Sochi next year.
