Cheryl Gillan with Ruth MarksWelsh Secretary Cheryl Gillan today welcomed the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales, Ruth Marks to the Wales Office in London.

Meeting Ruth Marks for the first time in her role as Secretary of State for Wales, Mrs Gillan emphasised the Government’s commitment to improving the lives of older people in Wales.

Mrs Gillan said: “As the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales, Ruth Marks has become a real champion for older people.  With an ever-ageing population it’s vital that we listen to the concerns of older people and make sure their voices are heard.

“Today gave me the opportunity to speak to Ruth about some of the issues facing older people in Wales such as dignity in care, age discrimination and crime prevention.  All of these issues are already high on her agenda and I know the Government will do all it can to support her work in any way we can.”
