Welsh Secretary pays tribute to Armed Forces on Remembrance Sunday
Secretary of State for Wales Stephen Crabb will commemorate the contributions of the British Armed Forces, past and present at a service of Remembrance in Cardiff this Sunday (8 November 2015).
Mr Crabb will honour the memories of those that have died during conflict by laying a wreath at the Wales National War Memorial in Alexandra Gardens in Cathays Park.
Earlier this week (4 November), Wales Office Minister Alun Cairns attended a service at the Welsh National Field of Remembrance at Cardiff Castle, planting a wooden cross bearing his own personal tribute to those who have given their lives.
In his Remembrance Day message, Secretary of State for Wales Stephen Crabb said:
At this time of remembrance, we pay tribute to the generations of service men and women who lost their lives serving our country, and defending our freedom and democracy. The people of Wales will always honour, with respect and appreciation, the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice on our behalf.
We also reflect on current conflicts around the world, and the daily sacrifices made by those who continue to defend our values and way of life. We are all indebted to their bravery, courage and selflessness serving in the line of duty at home and overseas.
Reflecting on the service at the Field of Remembrance, Alun Cairns said:
To see the carpet of touching tributes honouring the memories of our service men and women was a truly humbling experience. It was an honour and a privilege to have the opportunity to pay my own personal respects, and to commemorate those who fought - and continue to fight - in the service of our nation around the world.
