A joint trade delegation from the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) and the Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce (AGCC) visited Uganda from 18 to 20 March 2013.

The mission was organised by the UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) section of the British High Commission Kampala in conjunction with the LCCI and AGCC.

Trade missions are an established part of LCCI’s annual programme of international activities. Many UK companies use these missions as an integral part of their export strategy for expansion into East Africa. The LCCI delegation’s interests were in major sectors such as agriculture, energy, telecommunications, education, security and professional services in Uganda.

Ruma Deb, International Business Executive at the LCCI has led over 5 trade missions to East Africa. She noted that potential for business in Uganda and the wider East African region to UK companies continue to increase as reflected by rapid Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growths and growing interest in these major sectors across the region.

The AGCC delegation comprising companies operating in the oil and gas sector had a programme that was specifically intended to provide them a comprehensive introduction to oil and gas opportunities in Uganda. The programme included briefings with key stakeholders and operators in the public and private sectors for detailed market insight, site visits and one to one meetings.

Julien Masse, international trade team leader at Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce, said:

We have led a number of successful trade missions to Africa over the years. The aim of this mission is to equip delegates from SMEs involved in oil and gas with all the relevant information and contacts to support their future entry to the Tanzanian and Ugandan markets.

The trade delegation also visited Dar es Salaam to introduce the visiting companies to opportunities in Tanzania.
