UK nationals living in Norway: UDI residency card/permit portal
The British Ambassador to Norway and the Director of the Norwegian Immigration Directorate send a joint message to UK nationals in Norway.

One month on from the introduction of a new residence permit and card for UK Nationals protected by the EEA EFTA Separation Agreement, HMA Richard Wood and Norwegian Immigration Directorate (UDI) Director Frode Forfang want to ensure UK nationals living in Norway take the action they need to protect their rights.

The Ambassador and the Director are aware of the key questions from UK nationals about the new system and sought to provide clarity and reassurance. Ambassador Wood said:
We’re grateful for the close collaboration between our governments and the continued support UDI is providing to ensure UK nationals who call Norway their home can do so for many years to come.
They explained that all UK nationals already living in Norway need to get a residence card. This card will be the valid proof of residency status and rights under the EEA EFTA Separation Agreement.
Speaking about the introduction of the card, Ambassador Wood said:
If you already have a permanent residence permit, known as a permanent oppholdstillatelse or a bosettingstillatlese, you don’t have to apply for a new residence permit. You just have to order a residence card.
This is possible from 15 February via UDI’s site.
UK nationals that do not yet have a permanent residence permit need to apply for a permit in order to get the new residence card. You can apply for the permit now and have until 31 December 2021 to start the process.
Director Frode Forfang encouraged UK nationals who are in Norway but have not yet registered their residency to do that as soon as possible via the UDI.no site. He assured UK nationals that by searching for “Brexit” on the UDI.no site, they will find all the help and guidance they need to work through the application forms.
