UK Mansion House Scholarship awarded to Ugandan official
The prestigious scholarship was offered to Uganda by the Lord Mayor of the City of London, Rt Hon Fiona Woolf.

Last week, the Lord Mayor of the City of London, The Rt Hon Alan Yarrow, presented a UK Mansion House scholarship to Julius Kanakulya, an official within the Finance Ministry. The scholarship is a symbol of the close relationship between the UK and Uganda, of which educational ties are an important component. Around 850 Ugandans are currently studying in the UK’s world famous educational institutions.
Julius Kanakulya, an employee of the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, has chosen to study a Public Financial Management course run by RIPA International in London. At the ceremony, the Lord Mayor congratulated Mr Kanakulya for his achievement and wished him well in his studies.
This prestigious Mansion House Scholarship was offered to Uganda by the Lord Mayor of the City of London, Rt Hon Fiona Woolf, during her successful visit to Kampala in 2014.
The City of London is the UK’s financial hub, and the Lord Mayor of the City of London serves as a global ambassador, supporting and promoting the City as the world leader in international finance and business services. 2014 saw the first visit to Uganda by a Lord Mayor of the City of London and this underlines the growing importance of the Ugandan market to the United Kingdom. The City of London, a leading global financial centre, is keen to partner with Uganda to promote bilateral investment and skills transfer and ensure the UK remains one of the largest investors in Uganda. This interest was underlined by the recent market entry of Prudential, a London based multinational insurance company.
