Press release

Three overnight bridge work schemes to start on M5, M54 and M42 in the West Midlands

Three separate schemes to replace bridge expansion joints, which allow structures to expand and contract with changes in temperature, start in the West Midlands on Tuesday 27 May.

The M54 will be closed between junctions 1 and 2 near Wolverhampton for eight nights – four nights westbound followed by four nights eastbound - from 9pm to 6am. Traffic will be diverted via the A460 and A449 or vice versa.

The westbound B4084 Whittington Road Bridge at M5 junction 7 near Worcester will be closed for three nights from 9pm to 6am. Westbound B4084 traffic intending to join the M5 northbound will instead be diverted on to the M5 southbound to junction 8 where it can turn around. Non-motorway traffic will be diverted via the B4084 Whittington Road, and Egdon Lane, A44 Evesham Road, A4440 Swinesherd Way and A4440 Whittington Road.

The westbound A452 bridge on the south side of the A452/A446 interchange bridge near Solihull will also be closed for three nights, from 9:30pm to 6am. Traffic will be diverted via the A452 southbound to Stonebridge Island, the A45 and the B4438 back to the A452 interchange.
