The Spark

We’ve published the December edition of The Spark, our quarterly newsletter that includes the latest updates from across our organisation.

The December edition of The Spark brings exciting news for the future of clean energy in the UK. Wylfa on Anglesey has been confirmed as the site for the country’s first small modular reactors (SMRs), marking a historic milestone in delivering secure, homegrown power. This project will add up to 1.5GW of low-carbon energy to the grid, create thousands of jobs, and strengthen Britain’s energy independence. It’s a bold step towards national renewal, powered by British talent and innovation.

Alongside this landmark announcement, we share updates on leadership changes at Great British Energy – Nuclear (GBE-N), including the appointment of our Chair and new CEO. You’ll also find highlights from industry events, our roadmap for Wylfa’s development, and the launch of our first Early Careers cohort.

Together, these developments signal a new era for nuclear energy in the UK—one that promises growth, sustainability, and opportunity for generations to come.
