The Mayor of London visits Kuwait
The Mayor of London Boris Johnson is visiting Kuwait on 11 and 12 November 2013.
The Mayor is meeting with top Kuwaiti officials and Ministers to discuss issues of bilateral interest and follow up on the areas of cooperation that resulted from HH the Amir’s state visit in 2012.
The Mayor’s programme will focus in particular boosting business and investment relationships, particularly with London, which has a long history of trading and investment links with Kuwait. During his programme, the Mayor is addressing the third Kuwait - UK Business Council meeting, which is jointly chaired by Mohammed Al Shaya and Lord Jonathan Marland. The Mayor will also take part in a panel discussion about encouraging entrepreneurship and SMEs in Kuwait.
This visit will continue efforts to deepen and strengthen the Kuwait-UK relationship, of which London is an integral part. The city remains a destination of choice for many Kuwaitis who chose to holiday there or who maintain second homes in the capital. It is also home to the Kuwait Investment Office – which celebrated its fiftieth anniversary last year. This month also sees the first ever exhibition of modern Kuwaiti art in the British capital, supported by the British Council.
Speaking about the visit, the British Ambassador in Kuwait, His Excellency Mr Frank Baker, said:
I’m delighted that the Mayor is visiting Kuwait, it’s very fitting given the close links between the two cities, in business, culture, travel and investment. The seniority and breadth of the programme shows how important this relationship is to both countries. I’m also very happy that the Mayor is having the chance to meet Kuwaiti entrepreneurs and here from some of the vibrant young people whose ideas are making a real impact in this country.
