The British Consulate-General Milan and UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) have the pleasure to support the Jaguar Test & Taste Tour. This event organised by Jaguar Land Rover Italia combines the great experience of test-driving exclusive Jaguar cars and tasting the finest Italian food.

The Jaguar Test & Taste Tour is a successful format which has always been much appreciated by the Italian top clients. It represents a perfect networking opportunity for the Italian car dealers of the famous Jaguar Land Rover brand.

Test drive and fine food

The 2013 edition of the tour officially started on 15 November 2013 from two Italian cities, Milan and Livorno, and will continue with a road-show through twenty Italian destinations. The tour will celebrate the Britishness of the brand with the launch of the new Jaguar XF. It will also give the possibility to taste fine food and wines for the most discerning palates.

Vic Annells, Consul General in Milan and Director General for Trade and Investment, UKTI Italy, attended the opening party at Jaguar MI AUTO in Milan on 15 November.

The commitment to innovation of Jaguar Land Rover

Jaguar Land Rover confirmed its commitment to Research & Development in the UK with £100 million investment in a technology, innovation and education centre at the National Automotive Innovation Campus (NAIC) based at the University of Warwick. The construction will begin in September 2014. The centre will employ 1,000 researchers and engineers and will feature engineering workshops and laboratories, advanced powertrain facilities and the latest advanced design, visualisation and rapid prototyping technologies.

As Dr Wolfgang Epple, Director of Research and Technology, Jaguar Land Rover said, investing in collaboration, innovation, research and education is vital if the UK wants to be on a par with our international competitors.

The GREAT Campaign

UKTI has decided to support Jaguar Land Rover through the GREAT Campaign, the most ambitious international marketing campaign ever organised by the British government. GREAT Britain is a country that is both familiar and surprising under many aspects, including innovation, technology and creativity. It is also at the forefront in the innovation in the automotive sector.

Bilateral trade

The UK-Italy bilateral trade sees road vehicles among the top exports from both countries, a sign of the strong collaborations between UK and Italy and of the opportunities in the automotive sector. Italian and Britons share the same passion for cars and motorsport. Both can boast well-known brands and a long history of international successes. British style and makes are much appreciated by Italian drivers.

A fact which is probably less known but equally important for the British economy is that many Italian manufacturers are strong investors in the UK, especially in the field of vehicle components.

One of the most diverse auto sector in the world

Investing in the UK automotive sector makes good business sense. Over the last few decades the car industry in the UK has been completely transformed and continues to grow. The UK has one of the most diverse auto sectors in the world. Its industry can offer a wide range of cars for different driving styles and experiences, and also for all age groups and aspirations.

The reasons why UK car manufacturing is continuing to grow with global automotive brands building on UK-based design, R&D and engineering expertise include:

  • some of the most productive plants in Europe
  • a highly skilled and flexible workforce
  • one of the lowest corporate tax rates in Europe.

UKTI Italy can provide support not only to UK-based businesses interested in accessing market opportunities in Italy, but also to Italian companies wishing to invest in the UK. If you are interested in developing your business please contact the UKTI teams in Italy.
