UK Border Agency officers have found a would-be illegal immigrant hidden in between the pipes of a British coach’s engine as part of a desperate attempt to sneak through the French border into the UK.

As part of a routine search, UK Border Agency officers at Calais stopped and examined the coach which had travelled though Europe from Germany and was on its way to Stafford.

Taken into custody

The British coach company and driver may now have to pay a hefty fine and the young man, originally from Palestine, has been taken into custody.

Carole Upshall, the UK Border Agency’s director for European operations, said: ‘Finds such as these highlight the desperate measures some people will take to try and get to Britain and the determination and expertise required by UK Border Agency officers to stay one step ahead of illegal immigration.’

The UK Border Agency is responsible for securing the UK border and controlling migration in the UK.
