Statement:

I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the family and relatives of former Taoiseach Albert Reynolds.

Albert Reynolds had an unwavering commitment to the cause of peace in Northern Ireland. The signature of the Downing Street Declaration in 1993, with former Prime Minister Sir John Major, was a key step on the path to peace.

He will be remembered for this legacy, as well as the service he gave to his country as a Parliamentarian, Minister, Taoiseach and elder statesman.

May he rest in peace.
