Sophie Hutcherson reappointed as Non-Executive Director to the Financial Conduct Authority Board

Sophie Hutcherson has been reappointed as a Non-Executive Director to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) Board by the Economic Secretary to the Treasury.

Her first three-year term will end on 17 April 2026. Following her reappointment, Sophie will continue to serve on the FCA Board for a second three-year term to expire 16 April 2029.

The Economic Secretary to the Treasury, Lucy Rigby, said:

I am pleased to confirm the reappointment of Sophie Hutcherson to the FCA Board. Sophie’s extensive experience and skills will continue to support the FCA’s important work to reform regulation and support the government’s growth mission.

I’d like to congratulate Sophie Hutcherson on her reappointment. We will continue to benefit from her wealth of commercial experience and counsel as the Board focuses on delivery of the FCA’s strategy.

About Sophie Hutcherson

Sophie Hutcherson brings over 30 years’ senior experience in financial services, with previous roles at Wells Fargo, Deutsche Bank UK, and Lehman Brothers. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants and also holds a number of other non-executive roles, all unrelated to her FCA Board position, including directorships at Yacht Fractions Ltd and Bellecapital.

During her first term on the FCA Board, Sophie has served on the Policy and Rules Committee, as well as the FCA and Payment Systems Regulator Audit Committees. With her reappointment, she will become Chair of the Audit Committee, Whistleblowers’ Champion, and a member of the Risk Committee. Sophie also mentors a participant in the UK Regulators Network (UKRN) Next Generation NED scheme.

About the FCA Board

The FCA Board is responsible for the oversight and governance of the Financial Conduct Authority, which regulates the conduct of financial services firms and markets in the UK to ensure that they operate with integrity and protect consumers.

The Board comprises the Chair, executive members, and non-executive directors. Non-executive directors bring independent judgement and a breadth of experience to the Board’s deliberations.

About the appointment process

Reappointments are not automatic and each case is considered on its own merits. Sophie Hutcherson’s reappointment was made in line with the requirements of the Governance Code on Public Appointments.

Sophie Hutcherson has confirmed that she has not engaged in any political activity in the last five years.
