Soldier from the Light Dragoons killed in Afghanistan

It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must announce that a soldier from the Light Dragoons has been killed in Afghanistan today, Sunday 9 September 2012.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

The soldier was killed when the vehicle in which he was travelling struck an improvised explosive device in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province.

Spokesman for UK Forces Afghanistan, Lieutenant Colonel Richard Parry, said:

I have the sad duty to inform you that a soldier from the Light Dragoons has died as a result of wounds sustained while on duty in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province.

The thoughts and prayers of everyone serving in Task Force Helmand are extended to his family and friends at this extremely difficult time.

The soldier’s family have been informed and have asked for a period of grace before further details are released.
