Drivers are set to benefit from smoother journeys as sections of the M1 are resurfaced between junction 2 (for the A1) and junction 6 (for the M25) from Friday (15 April).

The 3 month scheme will provide drivers with around 10 miles of new surface as part of the Government’s record level of investment in roads since the 1970s. The work will involve overnight carriageway and slip road closures, and is expected to be completed by the end of July.

Highways England route sponsor Stephen Hall said:

We will be resurfacing sections of the M1 to provide drivers with smoother and safer journeys. We have carefully planned the work to take place overnight, when we know traffic flows are lowest, to minimise disruption. We advise anyone who wishes to use the M1 to plan their journeys and allow extra time if required.

The work will be carried out overnight between 10pm and 5.30am Monday to Thursday nights and between 11pm and 6am on Friday nights.
