Sellafield team aid fire response

A team from the Sellafield Fire and Rescue service were recently asked to assist the Cumbria Fire Service, by supporting the response to a large fire at an industrial estate in Haverigg.

The dramatic blaze, at the premises of Haverigg Exhaust and Tyre Centre, smouldered for almost 12 hours.

The Sellafield Fire and Rescue Service were called on to provide 3 personnel, a foam tender and a water bowser, just after 11am on Sunday 26 June 2016. The fire was eventually put out, and the building made safe, at around 8:15pm.

In total, 8 pumps from across south and west Cumbria were used to deal with the blaze.

Dominic Harrison, the Chief Fire Officer for Sellafield said:

When major incidents take place, it’s important we work together and provide a joined up response.

We have a range of capabilities at our site that can assist at incidents like the one at Haverigg, so long as we balance our site requirements and the community requirement when they are in need.
