A Sellafield site emergency exercise will take place on the morning of Tuesday 20 October 2026.
We will carry out a planned emergency exercise at Sellafield on Tuesday 20 October 2026.
We hold exercises like this regularly at nuclear sites. It helps us check that our emergency plans work and that we are ready to respond if we ever need to. This helps us keep our workers, the site and the local community safe.
During the exercise, you may hear the site siren in nearby areas. If you hear them, don’t be worried. It’s part of the exercise.
People can travel to and from the Sellafield site as normal until about 8:30am.
Some local residents who have signed up for Sellafield alerts may receive a text message, email or phone call. These test messages will be sent before 2pm.
