Sellafield Ltd has shared how it helps people improve the way they work. It shared its experience with more than 400 leaders from 38 countries.

Chief Operating Officer Roddy Miller spoke at the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) General Meeting. This took place in Tokyo, Japan, in September.

The event brought together leaders from around the world to talk about important topics. These included safety, developing skills, managing risks and using new technology.

WANO helps nuclear organisations around the world learn from each other. They share good practice to improve safety and performance.

The meeting also saw the launch of WANO’s new Culture of Continuous Improvement Framework. This aims to help organisations learn and improve every day.

During the event, Roddy shared how Sellafield Ltd encourages its teams to:

  • look for ways to do things better

  • learn from experience

  • solve problems together

Roddy said:

Continuous improvement cannot become another initiative, programme or campaign. It has to be part of normal work: how we lead, learn, challenge, solve problems and self-correct every day.

Sellafield has worked with WANO for more than 25 years. This helps us learn from organisations around the world and share our own experience.

By working together, nuclear organisations can continue to improve safety, performance and the way they support their people
