Secretary of State for Wales Cheryl Gillan today met with the Electoral Commission to discuss the referendum.
Following the meeting, Mrs Gillan said: “Today I had an initial meeting in Wales with senior representatives of the Electoral Commission. I once again emphasised my commitment to bringing forward a referendum as rapidly as possible, subject to ensuring a thorough and proper process.
“The Electoral Commission team explained how best they can fulfil their statutory responsibilities to help successfully deliver this referendum for Wales. They also restated the mandatory obligation for a 10-week period of consultation on the Question. We agreed to meet again in the near future.”
