Secretary of State announces the re-appointment of NIO Non-Executive Board member

The Secretary of State has reappointment of Ms Fiona Ross as Non-Executive Board Member for the Northern Ireland Office

The Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, the Right Honourable Hilary Benn MP, has announced the reappointment of Ms Fiona Ross as Non-Executive Board Member for the Northern Ireland Office.

The appointment is for a further term of three years ending on 28 February 2029.

Biography

In addition to her role at the NIO Fiona Ross is a member of the Network Rail Board and was until February an Non-Executive Director at the Scottish Government. She is also the Chair of the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board and is an Agency member and Chair of the National Treasury Management Agency’s Investment Committee.   Fiona also holds a number of other Central Bank of Ireland non-executive positions including SphereInvest, JK Funds and Evelyn Partners Europe where she is Chair designate. . She was formerly the Chair of  Córas Iompair Éireann (CIÉ), Ireland’s Public Transport Provider until September 2024.

Terms of appointment

  • These positions are part-time for a duration of three years ending on 28 February 2029.

  • The position attracts a fixed remuneration of £12,500 per annum for a commitment of approximately 15-20 days per year.

  • The positions are not pensionable.

Political Activity

Non-Executive Board members are appointed on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity in defined categories to be made public.

Fiona Ross has declared that she has not been politically active in the last five years.

Regulation

Appointments to the role of Non-Executive Board Members to the Northern Ireland Office are regulated by the Commissioner for Public Appointments.
