Anshika Jha will be based in the British High Commission in New Delhi working with representatives from UKTI and FCO to help British businesses operating in India make the most of the business opportunities there.

Minister for Intellectual Property Baroness Wilcox said:

“India represents a great potential market for UK goods and services and within a few decades could become bigger than the USA and EU combined. This is why I am pleased to be able to announce the appointment of our second IP attache, covering this important market.

“Anshika Jha will provide a physical presence in India that will help to build on our links with the Indian government and provide British businesses with the type of practical help and support they have been asking for on intellectual property matters.”

Anshika Jha said:

“The market for British goods and services here is potentially enormous. But I know that many see India’s intellectual property system as complex and often difficult to navigate. This is why I am really looking forward to building links with my counterparts within the Indian government and to working closely with UK businesses already operating in, or looking to get into the Indian market.

“With the right help and advice India can be a fantastic opportunity for British businesses - both now and in the future.”

India is a rapidly developing global market with a middle income population expected to reach 600 million by 2030. The new position is an important part of the Government’s plans to help strengthen trade relations and unlock even greater potential growth for UK businesses abroad.

Anshika’s experience in both UK and Indian law and business will help to provide valuable support for UK businesses on IP rights and enforcement issues.
