River Sowy and King’s Sedgemoor Drain drop-in

The Environment Agency is inviting people living on the Somerset Moors and Levels to a community drop in event at Othery Village Hall on Wednesday, 10 December.

It will be introducing a range of proposed options for the enhanced operation of the River Sowy and King Sedgemoor Drain.

The drop in, from 2.00 to 7.00pm will explain how works to the Sowy and King’s Sedgemoor contribute to the 20 year flood action plan. The Agency has completed an initial investigation of different options to enhance the capacity of the River Sowy and King’s Sedgemoor Drain. By increasing the capacity of the river system the aim is to reduce the risk, depth and duration of future flooding.

Graham Quarrier, for the Environment Agency, said:

We are keen to receive feedback on the options, as we are keen to use the available funding where it will make the biggest difference for people in the area. We want to build a consensus so we do encourage those interested to come along ask questions or voice your opinion.

People unable to attend the event will be able to access the report via the gov.uk website and complete an online survey to provide feedback.
