During the week of 14 September, Ambassador David Concar joined the Chilean delegation of ministers, parliamentarians and private sector leaders in London for ChileDay. To make the most of the delegation’s visit to London, the British Embassy Santiago organised a programme of activities aimed at promoting trade and investment, and sharing the UK’s experience on regulation and capital market development.

Chile’s Minister of Finance, Jorge Quiroz, met with Chris Elmore, the UK Minister for Latin America, as well as representatives from London Stock Exchange Group, His Majesty’s Treasury and the Financial Conduct Authority. These meetings provided an opportunity to exchange views on issues of shared interest and to further deepen co-operation between the two countries on financial and regulatory matters.

Discussions on infrastructure and financing brought Louis de Grange, the Minister of Public Works, Transport and Telecommunications, together with the UK Export Finance (UKEF), UK’s National Infrastructure and Service Transformation Authority (NISTA) and UK infrastructure businesses. The programme provided an opportunity to exchange expertise on Chile’s long-term infrastructure planning, project delivery and public service transformation, while exploring how UK experience can support Chile’s infrastructure ambitions.

Other activities in London

British Ambassador to Chile, Mr David Concar; Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Americas, Multilateral and Human Rights), Chris Elmore MP; Chile's Minister of Finance, Mr Jorge Quiroz, and Chilean Ambassador to the UK, Mr Diego Paulsen.

To promote the UK’s many exciting investment opportunities, the British Embassy organised a dedicated forum for Chilean institutional investors. The forum showcased the pipeline of opportunities across infrastructure, energy transition and other strategic sectors across the UK and introduced the investors to key stakeholders in the UK financial ecosystem.

The Embassy also supported meetings between Metro de Santiago, Cross Rail International and Arup to discuss the UK experiences building the Elizabeth line and the Kings Cross regeneration project. Both projects are excellent examples of how infrastructure investment can transform not only transport networks but entire communities through thoughtful planning and design.

The reception held at the Chilean Embassy in the United Kingdom also brought together authorities, private sector representatives and leaders in London to continue discussions on the challenges and opportunities facing financial markets in a constantly evolving global environment.

London is one of the world’s leading financial capitals, and ChileDay offered a valuable opportunity to learn first-hand from the UK’s experience in developing competitive and innovative markets. At the same time, it helped strengthen dialogue between authorities, regulators, legislators and business leaders, generating new opportunities for growth and investment for both countries.

Through initiatives such as ChileDay, the United Kingdom and Chile continue to strengthen a relationship based on co-operation, knowledge exchange and the pursuit of opportunities that contribute to the development of modern and efficient markets.
