Regius Chair of History University of Oxford

The Queen has approved that Professor Lyndal Roper PhD, FAHA, Fellow and Tutor in History at Balliol College, Oxford, be appointed Regius Professor of History (previously Modern History) in the University of Oxford in succession to Professor Robert John Weston Evans PhD, FBA.

Professor Roper (54) is a Fellow and Tutor in History at Balliol College, Oxford, and University Lecturer with the title of Professor, University of Oxford. She is holder of a British Academy Research Development Award for 2010-2011. She was previously Lecturer in History (1987-1993), Reader in History (1993-1999) and Professor of Early Modern History (1999-2002) at Royal Holloway, University of London.

Professor Roper was born in Melbourne, Australia, and studied at the Universities of Melbourne, Tuebingen and London. She has a considerable record as a historian of Sixteenth and Seventeenth Century German history and as a historian of gender.
