On the 20th and 21st January, the British Embassy in Panama in collaboration with the Embassy of Chile, Panama’s National authority for Transparency and Access to Information (ANTAI), and the Regional Network on Transparency and Access to Information (RTA) delivered a Regional Conference on Transparency and Access to Public Information.

The event enjoyed the participation of leading public officials from Chile and Uruguay and experts from the OECD. The experts shared RTA countries best practices and challenges, while the OECD shared global best practices from across OECD countries, mechanisms and tools available including the UK experience.

The objective of this conference was to integrate Panama and other Central American countries into RTA, to support the application of transparency laws across the region, through the implementation of open government policies.

This project supports the UK’s objective to extend a rules based international economic system through the promotion of peer learning and the sharing of best practices. Improving institutional frameworks for economic activities through open government policies such Transparency and Access to Information, will result in more security for economic actors and predictability for economic decisions.
