As the Insolvency Service’s Chairman and a high profile senior insolvency lawyer, shortly to be joining the firm of Paul Hastings, David has made a significant contribution to ensuring that the insolvency system is fair and provides investors, lenders and creditors with confidence to take the commercial risks necessary for economic growth.

David’s work has included numerous high profile insolvencies and restructurings, and he has contributed to setting the direction for insolvency practice through his membership of the Financial Law Committee of the City of London Solicitors Company; the HM Treasury Banking Liaison Panel; and the Editorial Committee of Law and Financial Markets Review journal. As a member of and then independent Chair of the Insolvency Service’s Board, David has made a valuable input to the efficient and effective running of the agency.

David is a passionate advocate of better care for people as they approach the end of their lives. He was appointed as a Trustee of Marie Curie in November 2007 and has played an increasingly prominent role on the Council of Trustees where he now serves as Vice Chairman. He is also chairman of Marie Curie Developments Limited, overseeing the capital development programme for a new West Midlands hospice opened by the Prince of Wales in June 2013. He has been generous with his time and expertise, and keen to ensure that the focus stays on the beneficiaries: people with a terminal illness and their families.

David Ereira said:

I’m delighted that my contribution to practice of insolvency has been recognised with this award. I also see this as recognition for the important work of the Insolvency Service in protecting the interests of creditors and the public, while providing a way for individuals and companies in financial failure to move on.

I am also very pleased to see that my award also recognizes the importance of the vital work that Marie Curie does by providing caring services and support to those living with terminal illness and their families.
