Public exhibitions on A27 Worthing lighting upgrade

Drivers, business owners and local residents are invited to find out more about upcoming work to replace the street lighting and resurfacing along the A27 in Worthing.
The scheme will see 82 street lights replaced with 73 new energy efficient lights and will involve 20 weeks of overnight carriageway closures, expected to start in April. Sections of the carriageway will also be resurfaced between Offington Corner and Cote Street.
Ahead of the work, a public exhibition is being held at Worthing College on Thursday 24 March from 3pm to 7pm. Representatives from Highways England and its contractors will be available to answer questions about the work.
Highways England asset manager for Sussex, Peter Philips said:
Upgrading the lights and resurfacing the road will help maintain safe and reliable journeys for drivers on the A27 and those that live next to it. I advise anyone interested in the scheme to attend the exhibition or get in contact with us.
The street lighting replacement will be carried out overnight, using 5 full closures of the A27 from 18 April and is expected to be completed in early August. Additional work will be carried out during the daytime with no impact to the A27.
The resurfacing will be carried out using overnight closures of the A27 between Grove Lodge and the Clapham junction.
Clearly signed diversions will be in place during the closures.
A survey was carried out in 2015 asking residents and local businesses whether they wanted noisier but a shorter duration or quieter and a longer duration for the roadworks. The resounding response was in favour of the noisier but shorter duration using mechanical extraction of the old lights.
