Proposals to help disabled people become MPs

One month left for contributions on proposals to help more disabled people to access elected office.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Your views are needed on news plans which include funding, mentoring and training to help disabled people overcome the barriers they face.

The government wants to hear from people across the community, including disabled people and those involved in the political process at all levels.

You can have your say on the consultation by visiting the Government Equalities Office website.

Changing attitudes

Paralympian Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson has urged people to respond to the consultation: ‘Disabled people are currently under-represented in public office in the UK, and many disabled people feel too removed from decision making.

‘The current consultation period ends on 11 May, please take part and share your views on what you believe is needed to effect a change in attitude and accessibility to public office.’
