Prince Harry attended the Queen’s Birthday Party at the Ambassador’s residence in Santiago the evening of Friday 27 June. At the reception were about four hundred guests from the business community, politicians, diplomats and the Armed Forces, as well as representatives of the British community in Chile and Chilean Olympic and Paralympic athletes.

At the event, Ambassador Fiona Clouder said:

Today we also celebrate the strong and growing links between the UK and Chile. Links that are demonstrated by the wide variety of people in this room. I would like to thank you all for coming – members of the government, parliamentarians, businessmen, members of the academic community, military contacts, the media, charities and the many other organisations that have helped us build relations and understanding between our two countries.

Prince Harry also gave a speech, during which he said:

Chile has a fascinating history and an amazing social and geographical variety. Both my father and my brother have spent time here and have told me many wonderful stories; not surprisingly is a country that I have wanted to visit for some time.
