Prime Minister's Twitter following hits 2 million milestone
@Number10gov is the most followed UK Government Twitter account.

The Prime Minister’s Twitter account @Number10gov has passed 2 million followers for the first time.
The micro-blogging social network allows users to send messages of up to 140 characters to users across the world who choose to subscribe or ‘follow’ each account.
The account attached to the office of the Prime Minister - @Number10gov - is the most followed UK Government Twitter account. It is also amongst the top 20 UK based accounts based on the number of followers.
Followers to @Number10gov are based throughout the world; 34% are in the UK, 29% in the USA, Brazil is the next highest with 4%.
Twitter is one of several social media platforms used by Downing Street to communicate with people in the UK and across the world:
- The Prime Minister’s Facebook page reaches around 125,000 people each week.
- Photographs and images on Flickr have been viewed over 2.5 million times.
- LinkedIn has been used to engage with the business community - including asking for feedback on opportunities for UK businesses to export.
- Followers on the location based social network Foursquare have reached 6800 since joining in October 2011.
