Press release

Press briefing: afternoon 11 November 2014

The Prime Minister's Official Spokesperson answered questions on private recordings of conversations and historic child abuse.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Private recordings

When asked about the Prime Minister’s view of recordings of conversations between MPs and prisoners, the Prime Minister’s Official Spokesperson (PMOS) said the Prime Minister shared the view of the Secretary of State for Justice and Lord Chancellor.

On the question of whether there would be an investigation, the PMOS said the Secretary of State had told MPs that an independent investigation would be carried out by the Chief Inspector of Prisons, Nick Hardwick.

Historic child abuse

When asked whether there had been a cover-up of child abuse, the PMOS said the report had found there was nothing to support a concern that files had been deliberately or systematically removed or destroyed to cover up organised child abuse.
