Planned roadworks in Yorkshire and the Humber: Weekly summary for Monday 8 December to Sunday 14 December

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 3 December but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M1 junction 28 to 31 and 32 to 35a, Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire/Yorkshire: smart motorway

Until the winter of 2016 there will be various restrictions in place to allow for the construction of the Smart Motorway. These include lane closures, speed restrictions, hard shoulder running and overnight slip road or carriageway closures. This week there will be a number of lane closures while the

following full closures will be in place between 8pm and 6am:

*Wednesday 10 - Friday 12 December: M1 junction 29a northbound entry slip road; *Thursday 11 December: M1 junction 32 northbound exit slip road.

M1 junction 30 (Barlborough) to junction 31 (Aston), South Yorkshire: drainage and barrier work

The hardshoulder will be closed in both directions and there will be narrower lanes and a 50 mph speed limit over 24 hours. The northbound exit slip at junction 30 will be closed overnight on the 25 November between 8pm and 6am with a clearly signed diversion route.

M1 junction 39 (Durkar) to junction 42 (Lofthouse), West Yorkshire: smart motorway upgrade

The hardshoulder will be closed in both directions and there will be narrower lanes and a 50mph speed limit in place over 24 hours until autumn 2015. Various other overnight slip road, lane and carriageway closures may also be in place. There will be a full carriageway closure southbound between junction 40 and junction 41 for four nights from 8 December between 8pm and 6am with a clearly signed diversion route. There will be a full carriageway closure northbound between junction 39 and junction 40 for three nights on the 12 December between 8pm and 6am with a clearly signed diversion route.

M1 junction 41 (Carr Gate), West Yorkshire: slip road and roundabout widening

The southbound exit slip and entry slip road will be closed for five nights from the 8 December between 7pm and 6am, with a clearly signed diversion route. The northbound exit and entry slip road will be closed for five nights from the 8 December between 7pm and 6am, with a clearly signed diversion route.

M1 junction 38 (Haigh), West Yorkshire: patching works

The northbound exit slip and entry slip road at Woolley Services will be closed for three nights from the 10 December between 8pm and 6am, with a clearly signed diversion route.

M1 junction 33 (Brinsworth), South Yorkshire: technology works

The northbound entry slip road will be closed for overnight on the 11 December between 8pm and 6am, with a clearly signed diversion route.

M18 junction 2 (Wadworth) to junction 3 (St Catherines), South Yorkshire: carriageway widening

The hardshoulder will be closed with narrow lanes running with a 50mph speed restriction northbound and southbound over 24hrs until February 2015.

M18 junction 5 (Ings), South Yorkshire: roundabout 2

The hardshoulder will be closed with various overnight closures on the roundabout with 24/7 lane closures on the northbound entry slip and southbound exit slip until April 2015.

M18 junction 6 (Thorne), South Yorkshire: bridge works

There will be a full closure between the slips southbound for two nights from the 8 December between 8pm and 6am, with a clearly signed diversion route. There will be a full closure between the slips northbound for four nights from the 9 December between 8pm and 6am, with a clearly signed diversion route.

M62 junction 30 (Rothwell) to junction 32 (Castleford), West Yorkshire: electrical work

There will be narrow lanes with a 50mph speed restriction over 24 hours, and the hard shoulder will be closed in both directions until early 2015.

*There will be a full closure eastbound between junction 30 to junction 31 for two nights from the 8 December between 8pm and 6am.with a clearly signed diversion route.
*There will be a full closure eastbound between junction 30 to junction 31 overnight on the 11 December between 8pm and 6am.with a clearly signed diversion route.
*There will be a full closure eastbound between the slips at junction 31 overnight on the 10 December between 8pm and 6am.with a clearly signed diversion route.
*There will be a full closure eastbound entry slip at junction 31 overnight on the 11 December between 8pm and 6am.with a clearly signed diversion route.
*There will be a full closure eastbound between junction 31 and junction 32 overnight on the 12 December between 8pm and 6am.with a clearly signed diversion route.
*There will be a full closure eastbound exit slip at junction 32 overnight on the 14 December between 8pm and 6am.with a clearly signed diversion route.

M606 junction 1 (Chainbar) to junction 3 (Staygate), West Yorkshire: surfacing works

There will be a full carriageway closure northbound for five nights from the 8 December between 8pm and 6am with a clearly signed diversion route

A64 Staxton, North Yorkshire, pavement patching.

Weekend closure 5-8 December – CANCELLED

Work between Staxton crossroads and Staxton roundabout will commence as planned on Monday 8 December and should be completed on Wednesday 17 December (subject to any delays such as weather). Works will take place overnight (8pm to 6am) with lane closures, temporary traffic signals and convoy working. This work will also require the closures of side roads entering the A64 and diversion routes will be in place. A616 Woodhead, South Yorkshire: Landslip works

There will be 24 hour traffic signals on the westbound carriageway until the 21 December.

The Highways Agency is working with the industry and road users to reduce the risks of working on the roads. For the safety of road workers and all road users, when you are approaching roadworks:

*keep within the speed limit – it is there for your safety. *get into the correct lane in good time – don’t keep switching. *concentrate on the road ahead, not the roadworks. *be alert for works’ traffic leaving or entering roadworks. *keep a safe distance – there could be queues in front. *observe all signs – they are there to help you.
