Planned roadworks in the North West – summary for Monday 29 June to Sunday 5 July

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 26 June and could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M6 Junction 16 Crewe and Junction 18 Holmes Chapel

Work is taking place to repair two bridges, which carry Congleton Road and Betchton Road over the M6. Lane closures and a 50mph limit will be in place along sections of the M6 while the work is taking place. For more information please visit the scheme web page.

M6 Junction 17 Sandbach

A major project to reduce congestion and allow for faster journey times through junction 17 of the M6, including building a new roundabout and a new link road from the A534 to the M6 has been completed and the junction is fully open to traffic. Some further resurfacing works are required on the A534 and will be carried out at the same time as concrete repairs to the Congleton Road Bridge. These works are planned to commence on Monday 6 July and last for two weeks. To complete the works it will be necessary to close the junction on several nights. M53 Junction 2 Moreton

A project is taking place to upgrade the bridges on the section of the M53 at junction 2, removing weight restrictions and reinstating lanes. The southbound exit and entry slip roads are currently closed to all traffic. A 50mph speed limit and narrow lanes are in place. The scheme is due to be completed by the end of August.

M56 Junction 11 Daresbury

A major project is taking place to tackle congestion at junction 11 of the M56 near Daresbury. Clearly signed diversions will be in place when roads are closed.

M60 Junction 8 Sale to M62 Junction 20 Rochdale

A major scheme is taking place to cut congestion and improve journey times on parts of the M60 and the M62 in Greater Manchester. The scheme will require some overnight closures affecting the full carriageway and slip roads, with a 50mph limit in place for the safety of workers and drivers. A55/A483 Roundabout, Chester

Drivers travelling between Chester and Wrexham are being encouraged to avoid the roundabout that links the A55 to the A483 while work takes place to upgrade the junction. There are currently lane closures on the roundabout while work takes place to increase the number of lanes from 3 to 4. The project is due to be completed on Monday (29 June). Weekend working is taking place this weekend which will be completed at 5am on Monday (29 June) with the total overnight closures moving from the western to the eastern roundabout bridges and the northbound and southbound approaches from the A483 from 8pm on Friday night until 5am on Monday morning. A day time closure moving from the western to the eastern roundabout bridges will also take place on Sunday between 7am and 8pm. For more information please visit the scheme web page.

A556 Bowdon to Knutsford

A £192 million project is being carried out to create a new dual carriageway linking the M56 to the M6 in Cheshire. A temporary 40mph speed limit is currently in place between Bucklow Hill and Bowdon, and the new dual carriageway is expected to open in Winter 2016/17. A595 Calder Bridge

Resurfacing of the carriageway and footpath as well as drainage repairs will be taking place between Calder Bridge and the junction with the B5345 from Monday (1 June) for around 12 weeks. Off-peak temporary traffic lights will be in place during the day for 7 weeks and overnight for the duration of the project. For more information please see the news release.

A66 Keswick

Work to repair drainage along the A66 around the junction with the A591 near Keswick will start on Monday (8June) with temporary traffic lights in use – mainly during off-peak hours. The work is due to be completed on Tuesday (30 June). For more information please see the news release.

A66 Hardhills to Augill Junction

There will be a 24hr lane 1 or 2 closures with a 40mph speed limit with 10mph limit during overnight works to allow for convoy working between 8pm and 6am.

A66 Former Greenacre Filling Station Kirkby Thore

There will be 24hr traffic signals in place for excavations in the footway and carriageway.
