Planned roadworks in the North East – summary for Monday 10 to Sunday 16 August

The following planned new and ongoing roadworks over the coming week are correct as of Friday 7 August. It could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

A1M Junction 64, County Durham

The southbound exit slip road and various lanes will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for bridge repair work from Monday 10 August until Thursday 20 August.

A1 junction 56 Barton to junction 51 Leeming Bar

There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day, and a lane closure on the junction 51 roundabout between 9am and 4pm until the end of October. The northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, from 8pm to 6am, between junction 50 and Scotch Corner, and southbound between Scotch Corner and junction 51, from Monday 10 to Friday 14 August. Both sides of the road will also be closed overnight between Scotch Corner and junction 56 from 8pm on Saturday 15 August to 10am on Sunday 16 August, and between 8pm on Sunday 16 August until 6am on 17 August. The project is due to be completed by spring 2017.

A1 Lamesley to Swalwell, Gateshead

Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place while work is carried out to upgrade the section of the A1 past Gateshead. There are also overnight lane closures between 8pm and 6am. The southbound entry slip roads at junctions 70 and 71 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Monday 10 August with a diversion in place. The A1 will also be closed at Lobley Hill, taking drivers off and then back on at the junction, overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 10 until Friday 14 August. The project is due to be completed by spring 2016.

A1 Alnwick, Northumberland

The northbound side of the A1 is currently closed near Alnwick while work takes place to refurbish a bridge. Traffic is running in both directions on the southbound carriageway 24 hours a day. Temporary traffic lights are also in use on the A1068 below the bridge. The project is due to be completed by the end of August.

A1 Stannington, Northumberland

Traffic will run in both directions on the southbound carriageway while work takes place to resurface the northbound carriageway. The scheme is due to be completed in September.

A1 Coalhouse Interchange, Newcastle Gateshead

The southbound exit slip road will be closed for resurfacing work overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Tuesday 11 until Friday 14 August. A diversion will be in place.

The southbound exit slip road and northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight at the A19 junction with the A1058, near the Silverlink retail park, for bridge repair work. The closures will take place from Tuesday 11 to Sunday 16 August between 8pm and 6am. There will also be additional slip road, lane and carriageway closures later in the summer, with the project due to be completed in September.

A66 Bowes to Cumbrian Border, County Durham

There will be 24 hour contraflow in place for resurfacing work. The westbound carriageway will be closed with both directions travelling on the eastbound carriageway. This will take place until the end of August.

A66 Scotch Corner to Newsham, North Yorkshire

Drivers will be led through roadworks in convoys overnight, between 8pm and 6am, while work takes place to paint new road markings from Monday 10 to Friday 14 August.

A168 Dishforth, North Yorkshire

Temporary traffic lights will be in use overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Friday 7 and Friday 14 August for resurfacing work.
