Planned roadworks in the North East – summary for Monday 1 to Sunday 7 June

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 29 May and could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

A1M Junction 62 Durham to Junction 63 Chester-le-Street

Work to resurface the hard shoulder between junctions 62 and 63 is due to begin on Monday 1 June. The southbound entry slip road at junction 62 will be closed overnight and reduced to one lane during the day. The northbound and southbound carriageways will each be closed for one night at the start of the scheme while safety barriers are put in place. A clearly-signed diversion will be in place. The hard shoulder will be closed overnight and during part of the day, between 9.30am and 3.30pm. The project is due to be completed by the end of June.

A1M Junction 50, North Yorkshire

There will be a lane closure northbound for technology work. This will take place Saturday 6 June between 6am and 9.30am.

A1 Junction 56 Barton to Junction 51 Leeming Bar

There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day, and a lane closure on the junction 51 roundabout between 9am and 4pm until the end of October. The northbound carriageway on the A1 will also be closed between junction 50 and Scotch Corner on Saturday 6 June, along with the southbound carriageway between Scotch Corner and junction 51. A clearly-signed diversion will be in place. The project is due to be completed by spring 2017.

A1 Lamesley to Swalwell, Newcastle

Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place while work is carried out to upgrade the section of the A1 past Gateshead. There are also overnight lane closures between 8pm and 6am. The road will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, at Lobley Hill from Monday 1 until Thursday 4 June. A diversion will be in place. The project is due to be completed by spring 2016.

A1 Alnwick, Northumberland

The southbound side of the A1 is currently closed near Alnwick while work takes place to refurbish a bridge. Traffic is running in both directions on the northbound carriageway 24 hours a day. Temporary traffic lights are also in use on the A1068 below the bridge. The project is due to be completed by August.

A1 Morpeth, Northumberland

There will be a lane closure in both directions between 8am and 5pm for construction work on the new bypass. The scheme is due to be completed by Friday 5 June.

A66M Junction 57 to A66 Little Burdon, Darlington

The northbound side of the A66M will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 1 until Wednesday 3 June while white lines and other road markings are replaced. Both sides of the A66 will also be closed overnight from Thursday 4 until Thursday 11 June. Cleary signed diversions will be in place.
