The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 29 January but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

A1 junction 56 Barton to junction 51 Leeming Bar

There will be phases of overnight lane closures and full carriageway closures while work takes place to upgrade the road to motorway standards. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day. There will be a northbound carriageway closure between junction 50 and Scotch Corner from Monday 1 to Friday 5 February. The carriageway will then be closed north and southbound between Scotch Corner and junction 56, on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 February. All these closures will take place between 8pm and 6am, with diversions in place. The project is due to be completed by spring 2017.

A1 Lamesley to Swalwell, Gateshead

Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place while work is carried out to upgrade the section of the A1 past Gateshead. There will be a carriageway closure north and southbound between junctions 67 and 69 from Monday 1 to Friday 5 February, taking place between 8pm and 6am with diversions in place. There are also overnight lane closures between 8pm and 6am. The project is due to be completed by spring 2016.

A1 Morpeth, Northumberland

There will be work ongoing until the end of 2016 for the construction of a bypass. There will be various phases of daytime and night time lane and carriageway closures, with narrow lanes and a 40mph speed restriction in place.

A1 Alnwick to Deanmoor, Northumberland

There will be a 24 hour contraflow in operation for resurfacing work. The southbound carriageway will be closed with all traffic travelling on the northbound carriageway. This will take place until mid February.

A66 Little Burdon, Darlington, County Durham

There will be work ongoing until 5 February for resurfacing and electrical work. There will be daytime lane closure between 9.30am and 3.30pm until Friday 5 February.

A66 Bowes to Cross Lanes, County Durham

There will be a 24 hour contraflow in operation for resurfacing work. The westbound carriageway will be closed with all traffic travelling on the eastbound carriageway. This will take place until Sunday 7 February.

A66 Clint Bridge

There will be a set of 2 way traffic lights which extends into a contraflow system to carry out some repairs to the westbound A66 from Monday 1 February to two nights. The entry slip road from Bowes village will be closed while the work takes place between 8pm and 6am, a clearly signed diversion route will be in place.

A19 Holystone to Killingworth Interchange, North Tyneside

There will be phases of slip road, carriageway and lane closures north and southbound for improvement work. This will take place until 11 February between 8pm and 6am, with diversions in place.

A66 A1130 Thornaby, Stockton on Tees

There will be an exit slip road closure east and westbound, for sign work. This will take place on Monday 1, Tuesday 2 and Tuesday 9 February, between 8pm and 6am with a diversion in place.
