Planned roadworks in the East Midlands: weekly summary for Monday 18 May to Sunday 24 May 2015

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 15 May 2015 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M1 junction 19 at Catthorpe, Leicestershire: major improvement works

The M1 will be closed in both directions from 9pm on Tuesday 19 May to 6am on Wednesday 20 May. The northbound carriageway will be closed between junction 19 off slip to the M6 and junction 19 on slip from the A14. The M1 southbound carriageway will be closed between the M1 to A14 off slip and the M6 on slip at junction 19. Diversions will be in place and clearly signposted.

M1 junction 24/A50 Approach Economy Scheme

Work to improve the capacity and traffic flows at M1 junction 24 is nearing completion. There will continue to be traffic management in place around the junction and its approaches at night times.

The northbound exit slip road will be closed for four nights on 18/19/20/21 May between 8pm and 6am. Diversions will be in place and clearly signposted.

Customers travelling to and from East Midlands Airport should allow extra time for their journeys during this work, particularly if they have a flight to catch. For real time traffic information visit Highways England’s website.

A453 major improvement scheme

Traffic between the M1 junction 24 and West Leake has been moved onto the new eastbound carriageway. As a result of this traffic switch, westbound traffic wishing to access Parkway junction should continue to junction 24 and return along the A453 eastbound, where the newly built slip road to Parkway junction is now open. This will be in place until the end of May.

The A453 westbound between West Leake and the M1 junction 24 will be closed from 8pm on Monday 18 May to 5.30am on Tuesday 19 May. The A453 westbound entry slip road will be closed at Parkway junction for four nights on 18/19/20/21 May between 8pm and 5.30am the following day. A453 westbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed at West Leake junction for three nights on 19/20/21 May from 8pm until 5am the following day.

M1 junction 28 to 35a, Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire/Yorkshire: smart motorway

Until winter 2016 there will be various restrictions in place on the M1 between junctions 28 and 35a to allow for the construction of the Smart Motorway. These include lane closures, speed restrictions, hard shoulder running and overnight slip road or carriageway closures. This week the following full closures will be in place:

  • Monday 18 May: the southbound entry slip road at junction 35a will be closed from 8pm until 6am the following morning
  • the northbound entry slip road at junction 29 will be closed from 8pm until 6am the following morning
  • the northbound exit slip road at junction 29a from 8pm until 6am the following morning
  • Tuesday 19 May: the northbound up and over at junction 29a will be closed from 8pm until 6am the following morning
  • the southbound entry slip road at junction 29a will be closed from 8pm until 6am the following morning
  • the northbound entry slip road at junction 31 will be closed from 8pm until 6am the following morning
  • Wednesday 20 May: the southbound exit slip road at junction 34 will be closed from 8pm until 6am on Thursday 21 May
  • the northbound entry slip road at junction 29 will be closed from 8pm until 6am the following morning
  • the northbound entry slip road at junction 31 will be closed from 8pm until 6am the following morning
  • Thursday 21 May: the southbound up and over at junction 31 will be closed from 8pm until 6am the following morning

Selected lane closures will also be in place along this stretch of the M1.

A1 Beacon Hill Road, Coddington, Nottinghamshire: construction

There will be a 24/7 closure of the northbound exit slip road until 11 June to allow the construction of a new access road.

A1 South Witham to Woolfox, Rutland County: survey works

The southbound carriageway will be closed from 8pm on 18 May to 6am on 19 May for survey work.

A5 Crick to Magna Park, Northamptonshire/Leicestershire: diversions

A diversion route will be in place for both carriageways between 9pm and 6am overnight up until 21 May.

A43 from Junction 15a (M1) to Towcester, Northamptonshire: drainage work

The southbound carriageway will be closed overnight from 8pm to 6am until 9 June for drainage work. Diversions will be clearly signposted.

A52 Spondon, Derby: electrical works

The eastbound entry slip and westbound exist slip will be closed overnight from 9pm to 6am on 20 and 21 May for electrical work.
