Weekly summary of planned roadworks in the North East

Weekly summary of planned roadworks in the North East for Monday 23 February to Sunday 1 March 2015

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 16 February but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

A1M junction 63 Interchange, Chester-le-Street, County Durham: Improvement work

There will be various lane closures on the southbound exit slip road and roundabout, ongoing until spring 2015.

A1 Junction 56 to Junction 51, North Yorkshire: Motorway upgrade work

There will be phases of night time lane closures, contraflows and full carriageway closures north and southbound. There will also be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction 24 hours a day. Work will be ongoing until March 2017. Additionally there will be a full southbound closure between Scotch Corner and Junction 51and northbound between Junction 50 and Scotch Corner, overnight 8pm – 6am. This will take place 28 February. Diversions will be in place.

A1 Coalhouse to Swalwell Interchanges, Newcastle/Gateshead Western Bypass: Major upgrading work

There are 24 hour narrow lanes, contraflow and a 40mph speed restriction currently in place. There are also night time lane closures in place north and southbound between 8pm and 6am. Further phases of carriageway closures, lane closures and contraflow will be ongoing until spring 2016. Additionally there will be a full closure northbound at Lobley Hill with a diversion in place. This will take place between 8pm and 6am 23 – 27 February.

A1 Seaton Burn Interchange, Cramlington, Northumberland: Junction improvement work

Work to improve the interchange will be ongoing until end of February. Phases of night time lane closures and some carriageway closures will be in place between 8pm and 6am. A 50mph speed restriction will be in place throughout the works.

A1M Junction 62 to 63, County Durham: Barrier work

There will be 24/7 hardshoulder and lane 1 running with lane 2 being closed north and southbound. The works will take place until end of April.

A1 Smeafield, Northumberland: Drainage work

There will be daytime traffic signals north and southbound between 8am and 6pm. The works will take place until early March.

A1 Alnwick, Northumberland: Alnwick South Bridge refurbishment phase 2

A1 right lane closures North and South bound to install carriageway crossovers followed by a full closure southbound with all traffic running in contra-flow on the northbound carriageway 24 hours a day. The A1068 below the bridge will operate under traffic signal control. The works will take place until August 2015.

A1M Junction 58 – 59, County Durham: Structural maintenance

There will be a carriageway closure southbound with a lane closure northbound until 27 February. All works will take place overnight between 8pm and 6am.

A1M Junction 60 - 61, County Durham: Investigation works

There will be a lane closure southbound between 8pm and 6am. The works will take place until 28 February.

A1 Kenton Bar to Seaton Burn, Newcastle Upon Tyne: Bridge maintenance

There will be a full closure southbound between 8pm and 6am. The works will take place until 6 March.

A19 Seaton Burn to Howdon, North Tyneside: Lining works

There will be a full closure southbound between Holystone and Silverlink 23 February, northbound between Holystone and Killingworth 24 and 25 February, and northbound between Killingworth and Moor Farm 26 and 27 February. All works will take place between 8pm and 6am.

A66 Morton Park to Little Burdon, Darlington Bypass: Electrical works

There will be traffic signals in operation north and southbound between 8pm and 6am. The works will take until 27 February.

A1 Seaton Burn to Fairmoor, Northumberland: Layby improvements

There will be a lane closure in place northbound 23 – 27 February. There will also be a carriageway closure northbound on 26 February. All works will take place between 8pm and 6am.

A1 Ellingham to Warrenford, Northumberland: Survey work

There will be traffic signals in operation north and southbound between 8pm and 6am. The works will take place until 27 February.

A66 Bowes, County Durham: Technology work

There will be a lane closure eastbound between 9.30am and 3.30pm. The works will take place 28 February.

A66 Cumbrian Border to Hutton Magna, County Durham: Survey work

There will be a lane closure eastbound between 9am and 5pm. The works will take place 24 – 27 February.

A1 Clifton to Shotton, Northumberland: Lining work

There will be a lane closure north and southbound between 8pm and 6am. The works will take place 23 – 27 February.

There will be daytime lane closures between 9am and 3pm, and night time carriageway closures between 8pm and 6am. All works will be north and southbound, taking place 23 February until the end of April.

A66 Sedbury, North Yorkshire: Improvement work

There will be a lane closure in place east and westbound between 8pm and 6am. The works will take place 23 February – 11 March.
