The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 24 July but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M2 junctions 4 Gillingham to 6 Faversham, Kent: joint and bearing replacement

Work to maintain journeys by undertaking bridge joint and bearing replacement on the M2 between junctions 4 (Gillingham) and 6 (Faversham) will continue this week. Mount Lane and Bottom Pond Road will be closed underneath the motorway 24/7 until September. Clearly signed diversions will be in place for these local roads.

M20 junctions 9 Ashford to 10 Willesborough, Kent: drainage investigation

Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage investigation work will start this week. Lane closures will be in place overnight, between 8pm and 6am from Saturday 1 August for 2 nights. Work is due to finish mid-August.

A2 Cobham, Kent: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys on the A2 at Cobham by carrying out resurfacing will continue this week. The Three Crutches overbridge entry slip road on the London-bound carriageway will be closed along with the Cole Wood underbridge entry slip road on the London-bound carriageway. In addition, three lanes will be closed on the London-bound carriageway with a reduced speed limit of 50mph. There will also be a requirement to close the London-bound exit slip road at Cobham. All work will take place overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 27 July (Monday to Friday only). Work is due to be complete by the end of July. Clearly signed diversions will be in place as follows:

  • road users wishing to join the A2 London-bound at the A289 will be diverted via the M2 coastbound to junction 2 and return on the London-bound carriageway
  • road users wishing to join the A2 London-bound at Three Crutches will be diverted via Watling Street, the A226 / Gravesend Road and the A289 to join the M2 carriageway
  • road users wishing to exit the A2 London-bound at Brewers Road will be diverted on the A2 to Marling Cross and return on the coastbound carriageway

A21 Tonbridge to Pembury, Kent: major improvement work

Work to improve journeys on the A21 between Tonbridge and Pembury will continue this week and is due to be complete in spring 2017. Temporary two-way traffic lights will be in place between Vauxhall and Longfield overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 27 July for 5 nights.

A27 Arundel, West Sussex: drainage investigation

Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage investigation work at Arundel will start this week. Temporary traffic lights will be in place between Ford roundabout and Fontwell roundabout overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 27 July (Monday to Friday only). Work is due to be complete mid-August.

A27 Kingsham, West Sussex: new footbridge construction

Work to improve safety by installing a footbridge at Kingsham on the A27 near Chichester will continue this week. Lane closures will be in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 27 July for 5 nights.

In addition, temporary pedestrian traffic lights will be in place on Hunston Road across the A27, east of Whyke roundabout and across Whyke Road in both directions. A temporary 30mph speed limit will be in place between the Bognor roundabout and the Stockbridge roundabout during the same period. Work is due to be complete in August.

A27 Lyons Farm, West Sussex: technology work

Work to improve journeys by carrying out technology work will start this week. The westbound carriageway between Grove Lodge and Manor Road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 12am, on Saturday 1 August.

A27 Polegate to Pevensey, East Sussex: carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing the carriageway between Polegate and Pevensey will start this week. A full closure in both directions will be in place between Cophall Farm Roundabout and the A27/A2270 overnight, between 8pm and 6am from Monday 27 July for four nights. A fully signed diversion will be in place via the A2270, Kings Drive, Cross Levels Way and the A22.

This will be followed by a full closure in both directions on the A27 between Stone Cross Roundabout and Pevensey Roundabout overnight, between 8pm and 6am on Friday 31 July for one night. A fully signed diversion will be in place via A22, A259 and Wallsend Road.
