Planned roadworks in Kent and Sussex: Weekly summary for Monday 26 January - Sunday 1 February 2015

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 23 January but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M2 junction 1, Strood, Kent: Carriageway resurfacing

The coastbound carriagway will be closed overnight between the entry and exit slip roads at junction 1 from Monday 26 January for five nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A289, A226 and the A229.

In addition, the southbound carriageway between junctions 1 and 2 will be closed overnight from Thursday 29 January. All work will be carried out between 8pm and 6am. Work is due to be complete by the end of February.

M2 junctions 6 to 5, Faversham, Kent: Carriageway survey

Lane closures will be in place on the London-bound carriageway overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Friday 30 January.

M20 junction 10, Ashford, Kent: Traffic signal maintenance

Lane closures will remain in place on the approach to the roundabout at junction 10 overnight, between 8pm and 6am, until Friday 27 March. During this time the signals will remain off 24/7. Pedestrian crossings will also be closed with pedestrians following alternative suitable routes.

M20 junction 13, Folkestone, Kent: Carriageway Surveys

Lane closures will be in place on the coastbound carriageway overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Tuesday 27 January.

M20 junction 13 to 3, Kent: White lining and stud replacement

Mobile lane closures will be in place on the London-bound carriageway overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Wednesday 28 January until end of March.

M23 junction 9, West Sussex: Drainage and carriageway survey

A lane closure will be in place on the coastbound exit slip road at junction 9 overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for six nights (Monday to Friday only) from Tuesday 27 January. Work is due to finish by Friday 20 February.

There will be lane closures on the roundabout and all exits and entries on the roundabout at the Gatwick Spur overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Wednesday 28 January for two nights.

A2 Brewers Lane, Cobham, Kent: Footpath and cycleway reconstruction

The existing footpath / cycleway will continue to be closed along with a hardshoulder closure on the main carriageway between Shorne and Cobham on the coastbound carriageway.

There will also be two way traffic signals on Brewers Road. All work will be carried out between 8am and 5pm (Monday to Friday). Work is due to finish at the end of March.

A2 Ebbsfleet, Kent: Emergency work

The coastbound Ebbsfleet link road will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5am, on Monday 26 January. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A2 to Bean Interchange.

A2 Jubilee Way, Dover, Kent: Lighting maintenance work

One lane will continue to be closed on the London-bound carriageway between the Port of Dover and Guston roundabouts overnight, between 8pm and 6am Monday to Friday only, until the end of March. One lane will be closed on the Guston Roundabout will also be closed during this time

A2 Lydden, Kent: Lighting column survey

Lane closures and two way traffic lights will be in place overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Tuesday 27 January.

A20 Dover, Kent: Road marking maintenance

The westbound carriageway will be closed between the Limekiln and Western Heights roundabouts overnight, between 8pm and 5am, on Tuesday 27 January. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A20, A256 and the B2011.

A21 Hurst Green, East Sussex: Lighting column survey

Lane closures and two way traffic lights will be in place overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Tuesday 27 January.

A21 Johns Cross, East Sussex: Carriageway survey

Lane closures and two way traffic lights will be in place overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 26 January for four nights.

A21 Sevenoaks Bypass, Kent: Central reservation replacement

The London-bound carriageway between Morleys Roundabout and the A21/A25 junction for Westerham will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 26 January until the end of February. A clearly signed diversion route will be in place via the A225, A224 and the A25.

In addition, there will be overnight lane closures on the coastbound carriageway with a reduced speed limit of 50mph in the remaining open lane.

A23 Pyecombe, West Sussex: Carriageway surveys

Lane closures will be in place between South Downs and B2116 on the London-bound carriageway from Tuesday 27 January for two nights.

Lane closures will be in place on the coastbound carriageway from Thursday 29 January for two nights.

All work will be carried out between 8pm and 6am, and a 40mph speed limit will be in place in the remaining open lanes.

A21 Lamberhurst Quarter, Kent: Slope investigation

A lane closure and two way traffic lights will be in place overnight, between 8pm and 6am, between the Forstal Farm Roundabout and the Lamberhurst Quarter from Monday 26 January for five nights.

A259 Bexhill, East Sussex: Drainage work

A lane closure and temporary traffic lights will continue to be in place on Little Common Road between 9am and 5pm and between 8pm and 6am (Monday to Friday only) until mid-February.

A259 Icklesham, East Sussex: Drainage investigation

Lane closures and two way traffic lights will be in place overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 26 January for six nights.

A259 Rye, East Sussex: Drainage surveys

Lane closures and temporary traffic lights will continue to be in place on the A259 between Harbour Road and Sea Road overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for five nights (Monday to Friday).

A27 Clapham Roundabout to Patching Interchange, East Sussex: Carriageway maintenance

Lane closures will be in place between the Patching interchange and Clapham roundabout in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 5am, from Monday 26 to Saturday 31 January.

A27 Crossbush, West Sussex: Resurfacing work

The westbound carriageway will be closed between the Crossbush and Patcham interchanges overnight, between 8pm and 6am, until Friday 27 February. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A280, A259 and A284.

A27 Falmer, East Sussex: Carriageway resurfacing

The westbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, between Falmer and Hollingbury interchange from Monday 26 January until Sunday February 8. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A26, A259 and A23.

A27 Fishbourne Roundabout to Crossbush Roundabout, West Sussex: Carriageway maintenance

Lane closures and two way traffic lights will be in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 26 January for five nights.

A27 Fontwell, West Sussex: Lighting renewal

Lane closures will be in place in both directions overnight,between 9.30am and 3.30pm and 8pm to 6am (Monday to Friday), from Monday 12 January. Work is due to finish by the end of March.

A27 Manor Road, Worthing, West Sussex: Footpath construction

Lane closures and a 40mph speed limit will continue on the westbound carriageway between the DVSA lay by and the Sussex Pad junction overnight, between 7.30pm and 6am until the 30 January.

Safety at roadworks

The Highways Agency is working with the industry and road users to reduce the risks of working on the roads. For the safety of road workers and all road users, when you are approaching roadworks:

  • Keep within the speed limit – it is there for your safety.
  • Get into the correct lane in good time – don’t keep switching.
  • Concentrate on the road ahead, not the roadworks.
  • Be alert for works’ traffic leaving or entering roadworks.
  • Keep a safe distance – there could be queues in front.
  • Observe all signs – they are there to help you.
