Planned roadworks in Kent and Sussex: Weekly summary for Monday 2 March – Sunday 8 March 2015

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 27 February but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M2 junctions 4 to 5, Rainham, Kent: carriageway resurfacing

The coastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 2 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M20, A249 and the A229. Work is due to be complete at the end of March.

M20 junction 10, Ashford, Kent: traffic signal maintenance

Lane closures will remain in place on the approach to the roundabout at junction 10 overnight, between 8pm and 6am, until Friday 27 March. During this time the signals will remain off 24/7. Pedestrian crossings will also be closed with pedestrians following alternative suitable routes. The London-bound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for five nights from Monday 2 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A292, A2070 and the A28.

M23 junction 9, Gatwick, West Sussex: carriageway resurfacing

There will be lane closures in place on the coastbound carriageway overnight, between 8pm and 6am, with one lane remaining open and a 50mph speed limit restriction. Work will be carried out each night and is due to be complete at the beginning of April.

A2 Jubilee Way, Dover, Kent: lighting replacement

One lane will continue to be closed on the London-bound carriageway between the Port of Dover and Guston roundabouts overnight, between 8pm and 6am (Monday to Friday), until the end of March.

A20 Dover, Kent: road marking work

The westbound carriageway will be closed between Limekiln Roundabout and Western Heights Roundabout overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Monday 2 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via via the A20, A258 and the B2011.

A21 Sevenoaks Bypass, Kent: central reservation maintenance

From Monday 2 March the carriageway will be closed in both directions for four consecutive nights between Morleys Roundabout and the A21/A25 junction for Westerham. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A225, A224 and the A25. Narrow lanes will remain in place on the coastbound carriageway during the daytime until Thursday 5 March.

From Friday 6 March for three nights there will be a full closures on the London-bound carriageway overnight and a lane closure on the coastbound carriageway overnight

London-bound closures will be in place between 8pm and 6am and the coastbound closures will be in place between 10pm and 6am. Work is due to be complete at the end of March and will be carried out each night, including weekends.

A21 Whatlington to Seddlescombe, East Sussex: drainage maintenance

Lane closures and two way traffic lights will be in place overnight, between 8pm and 6am, each night from Monday 2 March. Work is due to finish by the end of March.

A23 Bolney to Handcross, West Sussex: improvement work

Lane closures will continue to be in place on the London-bound carriageway between Bolney junction and Handcross Bridge. Work will be in place between 8pm and 6am, weeknights only until the end of March.

A259 Guestling, East Sussex: resurfacing work

A lane closure and temporary traffic lights will be in place, between 9am and 3pm, until the middle of March (Monday to Friday).

A27 Arundel, West Sussex: high friction surfacing work

Temporary traffic lights will be in place on the eastbound carriageway on the approach to the Ford roundabout overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Friday 7 March.

A27 Fishbourne to Crossbush, West Sussex: road marking and stud replacement

Lane closures will continue to be in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, until Wednesday 4 March.

A27 Fontwell, West Sussex: lighting maintenance

Lane closures will be in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm to 6am, (Monday to Friday) until the end of March.

A27 Kingsham, West Sussex: new footbridge construction

Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit will remain in place 24/7 until mid July. Temporary pedestrian traffic lights will shortly be installed.

A27 Lewes East, West Sussex: drainage maintenance

A lane closure will be in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am (Monday to Friday), until mid-April.

A27 Southwick Tunnel, West Sussex: passage door replacement

The eastbound tunnel will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 2 March for five nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A270 and the A293.

Safety at roadworks

The Highways Agency is working with the industry and road users to reduce the risks of working on the roads.For the safety of road workers and all road users, when you are approaching roadworks:

  • keep within the speed limit – it is there for your safety
  • get into the correct lane in good time – don’t keep switching
  • concentrate on the road ahead, not the roadworks
  • be alert for works’ traffic leaving or entering roadworks
  • keep a safe distance – there could be queues in front
  • observe all signs – they are there to help you
