Planned roadworks in Kent and Sussex: weekly summary for Monday 17 October to Sunday 23 October 2016

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 17 October but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

A2 Ebbsfleet, Kent: Utility works

Work to provide data services to the Ebbsfleet Garden City commence this week. A 24 hour lane closure will be in place on the entry slip road from the A2260 onto the A2 Watling Street from Monday 17 October for 7 days and nights. Works will be completed by the end of October.

M20 junction 4, Maidstone, Kent: junction improvement

Work by Kent County Council to improve journeys by adding an additional lane to the roundabout continues this week. Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit will be in place on both carriageways underneath the roundabout for the duration of scheme. A lane closure and 30mph speed limit will be in place on the southbound section of the roundabout. Lane 1 of the westbound entry slip will be closed.

M20 junction 5 to 7, Kent: vegetation clearance

Work to improve journeys between Junction 5 and 7 begin this week. Lane 2 of the exit slip road on the westbound carriageway at junction 5 will be closed on Monday 17 October for 1 day, between 8pm and 6am. The distributor road on the westbound carriageway will be closed on Tuesday 18 October for 2 nights between 8pm and 6am. Traffic using the distributor road will be diverted off at the exit slip of junction 6 and return via the entry slip road. The distributor road on the eastbound carriageway will be closed on Thursday 20 October for 2 nights between 8pm and 6am. Traffic using the distributor road will be diverted off at the exit slip of junction 6 and return via the entry slip road.

A20 Dover, Kent: junction improvement work

Work by the Port of Dover to improve journeys on the A20 continues this week. Phased works continue at the York Street junction and at the Union Street junction. Lane closures will be in place in both directions between the Limekiln and Woolcomber junctions. There will be no right turn facility along the section of the A20 for both eastbound and westbound traffic. Clearly signed diversions will be in place to direct traffic through the works.

Furthermore a full road closure will be in place on Union Street which will consist of both lanes being temporarily closed and no access to and from the A20 available. There will be no right turn onto Union Street for eastbound traffic and no left turn from Union Street for westbound traffic. Clearly signed diversions will be in place on the A20 indicating Esplanade access at Wellesley Road and the Marine Parade entrances. Union Street will reopen on the Tuesday 25 October.

A20 Western Heights to Courtwood, Kent: carriageway surveys

Work to improve journeys between Courtwood junction and Western Heights roundabout take place this week. A full closure of the eastbound carriageway will be in place between the B2011 Courtwood interchange and the Western Heights roundabout on Monday 17 October for 4 nights. A cleary signed diversion will be in place via B2011 and the A256. A lane 2 closure will be in place on the westbound carriageway between Western Heights roundabout and the Courtwood interchange on Monday 17 October for 4 nights between 8pm and 6am.

A21 Tonbridge to Pembury, Kent: major improvement

Work to improve journeys on the A21 between Tonbridge and Pembury continues this week. A 40mph speed limit remains in place 24/7 between the Vauxhall interchange and the A228.

A full closure will be in place on the London-bound carriageway between Longfield Roundabout and Vauxhall interchange and on the coast-bound carriageway between Quarry Hill and Longfield roundabout overnight, between 8pm and 6am from Monday 17 October for 4 nights. A fully signed diversion will be in place via the A26 A2014, A26 and A228. In addition, Longfield Road will be closed in both directions between Longfield roundabout and Knights Park roundabout overnight, between 8pm and 6am during the same time. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via via Liptraps Lane, Birken Road and the A264.

A full closure will be in place on the London-bound carriageway between Pembury interchange and Vauxhall interchange and on the coast-bound carriageway between Quarry Hill and Pembury interchange overnight, between 8pm and 6am from Friday 21 October for 2 consecutive nights. A fully signed diversion will be in place via the A26 A2014, A26 and A228. In addition, Longfield Road will be closed in both directions between Longfield roundabout and Knights Park roundabout overnight, between 8pm and 6am during the same time. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via via Liptraps Lane, Birken Road and the A264. In addition a lane closure will be in place on the northbound carriageway between Kippings Cross and Pembury interchange during the same time.

Longfield Road eastbound will be closed between Knights Park roundabout and Longfield roundabout overnight, between 8pm and 6am from Monday 17 October for 6 nights.

Tonbridge Road will remain closed after Pembury Hospital up to and including Longfield Road roundabout until Spring 2017. A clearly signed diversion route will be in place via the A228 and the A21.

M23 junctions 11 to 9, Crawley to Gatwick Airport, Sussex: drainage surveys

Work to improve journeys on the M23 continues this week. Various lane closures will be implemented in both directions from Monday 17 October for 5 nights between 8pm and 6am. Surveys are expected to be completed by mid-November.

M23 junction 9 to 10

UK Power Network are taking place on Sunday 23 October. There will be a north and southbound closure for utility work between junction 9 and 10 with a diversion in place. They will be working from 23:00 to 05.00 although, they are confident that they will be able to finish in a couple of hours.
