Planned roadworks in Kent and Sussex: Weekly summary for Monday 16 March – Sunday 22 March 2015

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 13 March but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M2 junctions 2 to 4, Medway, Kent: Central reservation investigation / white lining / road stud replacement

Lane closures will be in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for five nights from Monday 16 March.

M2 junctions 4 to 5, Rainham, Kent: Carriageway resurfacing

The London-bound carriageway will continue to be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am each night, for seven nights from Monday 16 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A229, A249 and the M20.

Work is due to be complete at the end of March.

M20 junction 8, Ashford, Kent: Carriageway investigation

The entry and exit slip roads on the London-bound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Monday 16 March. The entry slip road on the coastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Tuesday 17 March, Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the opposite carriageways to the next available junction.

M20 junction 10, Ashford, Kent: Traffic signal maintenance

Lane closures will remain in place on the approach to the roundabout at junction 10 overnight, between 8pm and 6am, until Friday 27 March.During this time the signals will remain off 24/7.Pedestrian crossings will also be closed with pedestrians following alternative suitable routes.

M20 junctions 13 to 2, Folkestone to Wrotham, Kent: White lining and road studs

Mobile lane closures will be in place on the London-bound carriageway overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 16 March for three nights.

M20 junctions 7 to 11, Detling to Stanford, Kent: White lining and road studs

Mobile lane closures will be in place on the coastbound carriageway overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 16 March for three nights.

M23 junction 9, Horley, West Sussex: Carriageway resurfacing

Lane closures and a 50mph speed limit will be in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, until the beginning of April.

M23 junctions 9 to 10a, Horley to Crawley, West Sussex: Sign renewal

Mobile lane closures and slip road closures will be in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, weeknights only until April.

A2 Jubilee Way, Dover, Kent: Lighting replacement

One lane will continue to be closed on the London-bound carriageway between the Port of Dover and Guston roundabouts overnight, between 8pm and 6am (Monday to Friday), until the end of March.

The coastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for five nights from Monday 16 March between Guston Roundabout and Eastcliffe Viaduct. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A256 and the A20.

A2 Patrixbourne, Kent: Bridge joint replacement

The coastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for three consecutive nights from Friday 20 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A299 and the A256. Work is due to finish at the end of March.

A21 Kent Street, Kent: Drainage investigation

Lane closures and two-way traffic lights will be in place between Crazy Lane and The Ridge overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for five nights from Monday 16 March. Work is due to finish at the end of March.

A21 Sevenoaks Bypass, Kent: Central reservation maintenance

The London-bound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 16 March until the end of March. In addition, lane closures and a 50mph speed limit will be in place on the coastbound carriageway, overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Monday 16 March until the end of March. Work will be carried out each night including weekends.

A21 Tonbridge to Pembury, Kent: Carriageway widening

Lane closures and two way traffic lights will be in place overnight, between 8pm and 5am, for five nights from Monday 16 March. Work is due to be complete by Summer 2016.

A21 Whatlington to Seddlescombe, East Sussex: Drainage maintenance

Lane closures and two way traffic lights will continue to be in place overnight, between 8pm and 6am,until the end of March.

A23 Bolney to Pyecombe, West Sussex: Road markings and stud replacement

Lane closures will be in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, until Friday 20 March.

A23 Bolney to Handcross, West Sussex: Improvement work

Lane closures will be in place in both directions between Bolney junction and Handcross Bridge overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for five nights from Monday 16 March.

A259 Winchelsea/Icklesham/Guestling, East Sussex: Resurfacing

The carriageway will be continue to be closed in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, (Monday to Friday only) for two weeks from Monday March 16. A clearly signed diversion route will be in place.

A27 Arundel to Crossbush, West Sussex: Drainage work

Temporary traffic lights will be in place on the main carriageway with a full closure of Burpham Road overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for one week. A clearly signed diversion will be in place.

A27 Ford Roundabout to A27/A29 Roundabout, West Sussex: Resurfacing

The carriageway will be closed in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for two nights from Saturday 21 March. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A27/A29 roundabout, the A29 and A284.

A27 Clapham to Patcham, West Sussex: White lining and studs

Lane closures will be in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for five nights from Monday 16 March.

A27 Fontwell, West Sussex: Lighting maintenance

Lane closures will be in place in both directions overnight,between 8pm to 6am,(Monday to Friday) until the end of March.

A27 Kingsham, West Sussex: New footbridge construction

Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit will remain in place 24/7 until mid July. Temporary pedestrian traffic lights will be in place on Hunston road adjacent to the work access and across the A27 in both directions east of the roundabout and across Whyke Road. A 30mph speed limit will be in place between Bognor and Stockbridge roundabout.

Lane closures will be in place on the eastbound carriageway between Fishbourne Roundabout and Whyke Roundabout, between 8pm and 6am, on Thursday 19 March.

A27 Lewes East, West Sussex: Drainage maintenance

A lane closure will be in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am (Monday to Friday), until mid-April.

Safety at roadworks

The Highways Agency is working with the industry and road users to reduce the risks of working on the roads.For the safety of road workers and all road users, when you are approaching roadworks:

  • keep within the speed limit – it is there for your safety
  • get into the correct lane in good time – don’t keep switching
  • concentrate on the road ahead, not the roadworks
  • be alert for works’ traffic leaving or entering roadworks
  • keep a safe distance – there could be queues in front
  • observe all signs – they are there to help you
