Planned roadworks in Kent and Sussex: Weekly summary for Monday 1 December – Sunday 7 December 2014

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 28 November but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M20 junction 5 to 6, Maidstone, Kent: Joint replacement and drainage

There will be lane closures in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, for three nights from Monday 1 December. A reduced speed limit of 50mph will also be in place.

There will be a lane closure on the coastbound entry and exit slip roads at junction 5 overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Thursday 4 December for two nights.

M23 junction 9 to 8, Nutfield, West Sussex: Slope stabilisation work and resurfacing

Lane closures will be in place on the London-bound carriageway overnight, between 8pm and 6am from Monday 1 December. Work is due to finish on Friday 19 December.

M23 junction 11, Pease Pottage, West Sussex: Gorse Management

A lane closure will continue to be in place on the coastbound carriageway overnight, between 9pm and 5am, from Monday 1 November for five consecutive nights. Work is due to finish by Friday 5 December.

A2 Ebbsfleet to Bean, Kent: Carriageway resurfacing

The London-bound Bean Interchange exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 5am, on Monday 1 December and for two nights from Wednesday 3 December. In addition, single lane running and a 50mph speed limit will be in place on the London-bound carriageway. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Darenth Interchange.

A20 Capel-Le-Ferne, Dover, Kent: Pavement Investigation

There will be a lane closure on the westbound carriageway between Limekiln Roundabout and Roundhill Tunnel overnight, between 8pm and 6am from Monday 1 December for four nights.

A2070 Hamstreet, Kent: Pavement Investigation

A lane closure and two way traffic lights will be in place overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 1 December for five nights.

A21 Pillory Corner, Flimwell, East Sussex: Drainage work

Lane closures and temporary traffic lights will continue to be in place between Scotney Castle and Flimwell Crossroads overnight, between 8pm and 6am, weekday nights only until Friday 19 December.

A21 Whatlington to Seddlescombe, East Sussex: Drainage work

A lane closure and temporary traffic lights will continue to be in place at Marley Lane overnight, between 8pm and 6am each night. The lay-by will continue to be closed on the London-bound carriageway adjacent to Marley Lane 24/7. Work is due to finish Saturday 6 December.

A23 Handcross to Warninglid, West Sussex: Major improvement work

The coastbound carriageway and the coastbound entry slip road at Handcross will continue to be closed between Handcross and Warninglid overnight, between 8pm and 6am, until Friday 5 December. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the A264, A24 and the A272.

A23 Bolney, West Sussex: Resurfacing work

The London-bound carriageway between Hickstead and Bolney will continue to be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5am, from Monday 1 December for four nights, A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the B2300, B2036 and the A272.

A249 Sheppey Crossing, Kent: Carriageway resurfacing work

The northbound carriageway will be closed from 8am on Saturday 6 December until 4pm on Sunday 7 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Kingsferry Bridge.

A259 Bexhill, East Sussex: Drainage work and street lighting

A lane closure and two way traffic lights will be in place on Little Common Road from Monday 1 December. Work will be carried out between 9am and 4pm, and between 8pm and 6am, Monday to Friday only.

Lane closures will be in place in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 5am, between Belle Hill and De La Warr Road, from Monday 1 December for three nights.

A27 Cophall Farm, Polegate: East Sussex: Stud removal

Lane closures will be in place on the Cophall Farm roundabout overnight, between 8pm and 6am, on Saturday 6 December for two nights.

A27 Fontwell, West Sussex: Vegetation clearance

Westbound lane closures will continue to be in place at Fontwell, between9.30am and 3.30pm, on weekdays only from Monday 1 December for five nights.

A27 Manor Road, Worthing, West Sussex: Footpath construction

Westbound lane closures and a 40mph speed limit will continue to be in place between the Vosa lay by and the Sussex Pad junction overnight, between 7.30pm and 6am, for three weeks.

A27 Whyke Roundabout, Chichester, West Sussex: Drainage improvement

Narrow lanes will continue to be in place during the daytime with lane closures in place in both directions overnight (Monday to Friday only), between 8pm and 6am, around the Whyke Roundabout. Work is due to be completed in early December. Safety at roadworks

  • Keep within the speed limit – it is there for your safety.
  • Get into the correct lane in good time – don’t keep switching.
  • Concentrate on the road ahead, not the roadworks.
  • Be alert for works’ traffic leaving or entering roadworks.
  • Keep a safe distance – there could be queues in front.
  • Observe all signs – they are there to help you.
