Planned roadworks in Central Southern England: Weekly summary for Monday 12 – Sunday 18 January 2015

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 9 January 2015 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M27 junctions 2 to 3 River Blackwater Ower, Hampshire: Re-waterproofing

Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit will remain in place until the end of January 2015.

Carriageway closures will be in place overnight, between 10pm and 6am, as follows:

  • Wednesday 14 January: junction 3 to 2 westbound
  • Thursday 15 January: junction 2 to 3 eastbound

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A326 and A35.

M27 junction 3 Nursling, Hampshire: Junction improvement

Overnight closures between 10pm and 6am will be in place as follows:

  • Monday 12 January for 7 nights: northern section of the junction 3 roundabout
  • Monday 12 January for 7 nights: M271 southbound approach to junction 3 roundabout
  • Monday 12 January for 10 nights: eastbound exit slip road.

Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the A326 and the A35, or the M27 J2 or J5.

M27 junction 5 Eastleigh, Hampshire: Junction improvement

Narrow lanes and a reduced speed limit will remain in place until the end of March 2015.

M3 junction 2 (Thorpe) to 5 (Hook): Smart motorway improvement

Narrow lanes, a contra-flow and a 50mph speed limit will be in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day until the end of 2016.

The westbound carriageway will be closed between junctions 2 and 3 overnight, between 10pm and 6am, for five nights from Monday 12 January. The M25 junction 12 links to the M3 will also be closed at these times. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A30.

M3 junction 6 Black Dam improvement Basingstoke, Hampshire

Narrow lanes and a 30mph speed limit will remain in place on the approaches and around the roundabout until Summer 2015.

The M3 spur road will be closed southbound between 10pm and 6am, for three nights from Monday 12 January. A clearly signed diversion route will be in place via the A30.

M3 junctions 7 to 9 Basingstoke to Winchester, Hampshire: Resurfacing work

Carriageway closures will be in place overnight, between 10pm and 6am, (Monday to Friday) on the southbound carriageway as follows:

  • Monday 12 January – junctions 7 to 9
  • Tuesday 13 January for 11 nights – junctions 8 to 9

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A303 and A34.

M3 junctions 6 to 13 Hampshire: Slip road marking renewal and surface repairs

Various slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, as follows:

M3 junction 12-13 Chandler’s Ford, Hampshire: Resurfacing work

The southbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Friday 16 January. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A335.

M4 junctions 6 to 7 Slough, Berkshire: Street lighting maintenance

Lane closures will be in place in both directions overnight, between 10pm and 6am, for two weeks from Monday 12 January (Monday to Friday only).

M4 junctions 8/9 Maidenhead to 10 Wokingham, Berkshire: Bridge repair

Lane closures will be in place in both directions, between 10pm and 6am, for four weeks from Monday 12 January.

M4 junction 10 Wokingham, Berkshire: Junction improvement work

There will be ongoing lane closures overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until June.

Lane closures are in place in both directions overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until Sunday 25 January.

M4 junctions 11 Reading to 12 Theale, West Berkshire: Barrier repairs

Lane closures will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until Friday 20 February (Monday to Friday nights only).

M4 junctions 12 to 13, West Berkshire: Resurfacing

The westbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until Wednesday 28 January (Monday to Friday nights only). A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A4.

M4 junctions 13 Chieveley to 14 Hungerford, West Berkshire: Drainage work

There will be overnight lane closures, between 10pm and 6am, until February (Monday to Friday only).

M4 junctions 14 Hungerford, West Berkshire to 15 Swindon, Wiltshire: Drainage work

Varied lane closures are in place in both directions overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until May (Monday to Friday only).

A3 Hindhead Tunnel, Surrey: Maintenance

The tunnel will be closed in both directions overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Saturday 17 January. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A31 and A325.

A303 Andover to Thruxton, Hampshire: Carriageway repair

The westbound carriageway from the A343 Hundred Acre junction to Thruxton will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, for two nights from Monday 12 January. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A342, Ludgershall and A338 to re-join the A303 at Parkhouse Cross.

A34 Kings Worthy (Winchester), Hampshire: Construction of new lay-by

A lane closure will be in place on the northbound carriageway overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until the end of February (Monday to Friday only).

A34 Whitchurch, Hampshire: Carriageway repairs

The southbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from the A343 Wash Common junction to the A303 Bullington Cross junction on Monday 12 January. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A343, Andover and the A303.

A34 Newbury, West Berkshire: Road marking renewals

A lane closure will be in place on the southbound carriageway overnight, between 10pm and 6am, for three weekday nights from Monday 12 January.

A34 Chieveley to Beedon, West Berkshire: Carriageway inspections

There will be lane closures in both carriageways overnight, between 10pm and 6am, on Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 January.

A34 West Ilsley, West Berkshire to Chilton, Oxfordshire: Carriageway inspection

There will be overnight lane closures in both directions, between 10pm and 6am, for three nights from Wednesday 14 January.

A34 Chilton to Milton, Oxfordshire: Drainage maintenance

Lane closures remain in place overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until May.

A34/M40 junction 9 Wendlebury, Oxfordshire: Junction improvement

Lane closures remain in place overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until mid-January.

A404(M)/A404 Maidenhead: Resurfacing

The northbound carriageway between junction 9a and the Bisham Roundabout will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until Tuesday 13 January. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M4, M25 and M40.

Safety at Roadworks

The Highways Agency is working with the industry and road users to reduce the risks of working on the roads. For the safety of road workers and all road users, when you are approaching roadworks:

  • keep within the speed limit – it is there for your safety
  • get into the correct lane in good time – don’t keep switching
  • concentrate on the road ahead, not the roadworks
  • be alert for works’ traffic leaving or entering roadworks
  • keep a safe distance – there could be queues in front
  • observe all signs – they are there to help you
