The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 25 November 2016 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: Smart motorway improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day.

The southbound carriageway between junctions 2 and 4 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, from Monday 28 November for 6 consecutive nights. Work on Saturday and Sunday mornings will finish at 7am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M25 junction 13, A30 and the A331.

The northbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 2 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 7am, on Saturday 3 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A322 and A30 to M25 junction 13. The northbound carriageway between junctions 4 and 2 will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, from Monday 28 November for 5 nights. Work on Saturday morning will finish at 7am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A331, A30 and M25 junction 13.

The dedicated link road from the M3 southbound to the M25 clockwise will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, from Monday 28 November for 5 nights. Work on Saturday morning will finish at 7am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 11 and return.

M25 junction 4 Orpington, Kent: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The clockwise exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 29 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via the A21, A25 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 3 and return.

M25 junction 9 Leatherhead, Surrey: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Sunday 4 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 8 and return.

M25 Cobham Services, Surrey: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The clockwise exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 28 November. A clearly signed diversion for the exit slip road will be in place via junction 10 and return. A clearly signed diversion for the entry slip road will be in place via junction 9 and return.

M25 junction 14 Stanwell Moor, Middlesex: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 2 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 13 and return.

M25 Heathrow Terminal 5, Middlesex: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The dedicated link road from Heathrow Terminal 5 to the M25 clockwise will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 2 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 13 and return.

M25 junction 15 (M4), Middlesex: resurfacing / bridge inspection

Work to improve journeys and maintain safety by carrying out resurfacing and bridge inspections will start this week. The dedicated link road from the M25 anti-clockwise to the M4 westbound will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 28 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M4 eastbound to junction 4 and return.

The clockwise carriageway between the slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 28 November for 2 nights and on Thursday 1 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M4 westbound to junction 5 and return.

The dedicated link roads from the M25 clockwise to the M4 in both directions will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am on Friday 2 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via M25 junction 16, M40 eastbound to junction 1 and return.

M25 junction 16 (M40), Buckinghamshire: electrical repair

Work to maintain safety by carrying out electrical repairs will start this week. The dedicated link roads from the M25 in both directions to the M40 westbound will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 28 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M40 eastbound to junction 1 and return.

M25 junction 18 Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The clockwise exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 5am, on Friday 2 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 20 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via junction 17 and return.

M25 junction 23 South Mimms, Hertfordshire: carriageway sweeping

Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway sweeping will start this week. The anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 28 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1(M) to junction 2 and return, then M25 anti-clockwise to junction 24 and return.

M25 junction 23 South Mimms, Hertfordshire: bridge joint replacement

Work to improve journeys by carrying out bridge joint replacement on the structure that carries the M25 over the A1(M) will continue this week. The northern half of the roundabout will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 28 November for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1(M) to junction 2 and return.

M25 junctions 30 Thurrock to 31 Lakeside, Essex: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. On the A13, narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place and on the M25, narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place. A free recovery service will operate 24 hours a day. There will be additional overnight lane and slip road closures as required. All closures will have a clearly signed diversion in place.

The clockwise carriageway between junctions 30 and 31 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 28 November for 4 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the exit slip road, junctions 30 to 31 link road and junction 31.

M25 junctions 31 Lakeside to 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. The northbound carriageway between junctions 31 and 30 will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 28 November for 2 nights and between 11pm and 6am on Friday 2 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the junction 31 link road to junction 30.

A1(M) junction 1 South Mimms, Hertfordshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The southbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Saturday 3 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 2 and return.

A1(M) junction 4 Hatfield North, Hertfordshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will start this week. The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 28 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 3 and return.

A3 (M25), Surrey: litter clearance

Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Thursday 1 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Ockham junction and return.

The southbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 2 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via the Ockham junction and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via the Painshill junction and return.

A3 Painshill, Surrey: litter clearance

Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The southbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 30 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via the M25 junction and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via the Esher junction and return.

The northbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Thursday 1 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Esher junction and return.

A3 Esher, Surrey: litter clearance

Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The southbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 28 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via the Painshill junction and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via the Tolworth junction and return.

The northbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Tuesday 29 November. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via the Tolworth junction. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via the Painshill junction and return.

A13/M25 junction 30 Thurrock, Essex: major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. On the A13, narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place and on the M25, narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place. A free recovery service will operate 24 hours a day. There will be additional overnight lane and slip road closures as required. All closures will have a clearly signed diversion in place.

The A13 eastbound between the A1306 (Wennington Interchange) and the A1012 (North Stifford) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 28 November for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1306, M25 junction 31 and the A1012 to North Stifford.

The A13 westbound between the A1012 (North Stifford) and the A1306 (Wennington Interchange) will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 30 November for 3 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1012, A1306, M25 junction 31 and A1306.

A282 (M25) Dartford – Thurrock Crossing: maintenance

Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing continues this week. The following closures will be in place with a fully signed diversion for oversized vehicles for the northbound east tunnel closures:

  • Monday 28 November (8.30pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Tuesday 29 November (8.30pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Wednesday 30 November (8.30pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Thursday 1 December (8.30pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Friday 2 December (9pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel
  • Saturday 3 December (8.30pm to 6am) northbound west tunnel
  • Sunday 4 December (8.30pm to 5.30am) northbound east tunnel

The QEII Bridge will have three (of four) lanes closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 28 November for 5 nights. Work on Friday will start at 11pm.

A282 junction 1a Swanscombe, Kent: tunnel maintenance

Work to maintain safety by carrying out tunnel maintenance continues this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 8.30pm and 5.30am, on Saturday 3 December. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A282 southbound to junction 1b and return.
