The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 16 July 2015 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M1 junction 3 London Gateway Services, Greater London: Litter clearance

Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The southbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Thursday 23 July. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M1 northbound to junction 5 and return.

M1 junction 6a (M25), Hertfordshire: Carriageway repair

Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway repairs will start this week. The southbound link road to the M25 clockwise will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Wednesday 22 July. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 6, and the A405 to join the M25 at junction 21.

M4 junctions 1 Chiswick to 3 Hounslow, Greater London: Drainage work and carriageway resurfacing

Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage maintenance and anti-skid resurfacing in various locations will start this week. The eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 20 July for 3 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A4 and A312.

The westbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday 20 July for 4 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A4.

M20 junction 1 Swanley, Kent: Carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing starts this week. The westbound exit slip road and the north-east quadrant of the roundabout will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Tuesday 21 July for 2 nights. Clearly signed diversions will be in place as below:

  • traffic wishing to access the M25 clockwise will be diverted via the dedicated link road to M25 anti-clockwise junction 2 and return
  • traffic wishing to access the B2173 London Road will be diverted via the M25 anti-clockwise junction 2, clockwise to junction 4 and return
  • traffic travelling from the A20/M20 eastbound wishing to access M25 clockwise will be diverted via the M25 anti-clockwise junction 2 and return
  • traffic travelling from the A20 London Road wishing to access the M20 eastbound will be diverted via M25 anti-clockwise junction 2 and return via the dedicated link road to the M20 eastbound

M25 junction 3 Swanley, Kent: Carriageway resurfacing

  • traffic wishing to travel onto the A20 westbound will be diverted via the M25 junction 4 and return
  • traffic wishing to travel onto the A20 London Road eastbound will be diverted via the M25 junction 4 and return, A20 westbound, A223, A2018 and the A225
  • traffic wishing to travel onto the A20 London Road eastbound from A20/M20 eastbound will be diverted via the M25 anti-clockwise junction 2, A2, A2018, A226 and the A225
  • traffic travelling from M25 anti-clockwise wishing to access M20 eastbound will be diverted via the M25 junction 2 and return
  • traffic travelling from the M25 clockwise wishing to access the B2173 London Road will be diverted via the M25 junction 4 and return
  • traffic travelling from the M25 anti-clockwise wishing to access the A20 London Road will be diverted via the M25 anti-clockwise junction 2, A2, A2018 and A225
  • traffic travelling from B2173 London Road wishing to access the A20 London Road will be diverted via the A20 westbound, A223, A2018 and the A225
  • traffic travelling from the B2173 London Road wishing to access the M25 clockwise will be diverted via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 2 and return
  • traffic travelling from the B2173 London Road wishing to access the M20 eastbound will be diverted via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 2 and return using the dedicated link road to the M20 eastbound

The anti-clockwise exit slip road and the southern section of the roundabout will be closed overnight between 10pm and 5am, from Thursday 23 July for 2 nights. Clearly signed diversions will be in place as below:

  • traffic wishing to access the B2173 London Road will be diverted via junction 2, A2 westbound, A223 onto the B2173
  • traffic wishing to access the A20 westbound will be diverted via junction 2, A2 westbound, A223 to Crittall’s Corner onto the A20
  • traffic wishing to access the M20 eastbound will be diverted via junction 2 and return
  • traffic wishing to access the A20 London Road will be diverted via junction 2, A2 westbound, A2018 and A225 onto the A20 London Road
  • traffic travelling from the B2173 London Road wishing to access the M25 clockwise will be diverted via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 2 and return
  • traffic travelling from the A20/M20 eastbound wishing to access the M25 clockwise will be diverted via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 2 and return
  • traffic travelling from the M25 clockwise wishing to access the B2173 London Road will be diverted via the M25 junction 4, A224 and A223
  • traffic travelling from the M25 clockwise wishing to access the A20 westbound will be diverted via the M25 junction 4, A224, Crittall’s Corner onto the A20 eastbound
  • traffic travelling from the A20/M20 wishing to access the B2173 will be diverted via the A20 London Road, A225, A2018 and A223

M25 junction 4 Bromley, Kent: Litter clearance

Work to improve journeys by carrying out litter clearance will start this week. The clockwise entry and exit slip roads will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 20 July. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the entry slip road via the M25 anti-clockwise to junction 3 and return. A clearly signed diversion will be in place for the exit slip road via junction 5, the A21, A25 and return.

M25 junction 10 Guildford (A3), Surrey: Carriageway surface treatment

Work to improve safety by carrying out carriageway fine milling will start this week. The anti-clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Saturday 25 July for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 clockwise to junction 11 and return.

M25 junction 15 (M4), Greater London: Carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve safety by carrying out anti-skid resurfacing will start this week. The clockwise link road to the M4 westbound will be closed overnight, between 11pm and 6am, on Friday 24 July. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M4 eastbound to junction 4 and return.

M25 junction 22 London Colney, Hertfordshire: Carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve safety by carrying out anti-skid resurfacing will start this week. The clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 20 July for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 23.

M25 junction 31 Lakeside, Essex: QEII Bridge resurfacing work

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing will continue this week. The clockwise entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 20 July for 7 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 30.

A1(M) junction 5 Lemsford, Hertfordshire: Carriageway sweeping

Work to improve journeys by carrying out carriageway sweeping will start this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Monday 20 July. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the B197, B653 and A6129 to join the A1(M) at junction 4.

A13/M25 junction 30 Thurrock, Essex: Major improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety continues this week as part of a major scheme to widen the A13 and the M25 junction 30 roundabout and slip roads. Narrow lanes and a 40mph speed limit are in place with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day. There will be additional overnight lane and slip road closures as required. All closures will have a clearly signed diversion in place.

The eastbound carriageway between Wennington and North Stifford, including the entry slip roads from Wennington and the M25 junction 30, will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Monday 20 July. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1306, West Thurrock Arterial Road and the A1012.

The westbound carriageway between North Stifford and Wennington, including the entry slip roads from the A126 and the M25 junction 30, will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, on Tuesday 21 July. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1012, West Thurrock Arterial Road and the A1306.

The eastbound carriageway between Wennington and North Stifford, including the entry slip roads from Wennington and the M25 junction 30, will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 22 July for 3 nights. Work on Friday night will start at 11pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A1306, West Thurrock Arterial Road and the A1012.

A20 London Road, Swanley, Kent: Carriageway resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing starts this week. The westbound carriageway between the Teardrop Centre roundabout and the M25 junction 3 roundabout will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Thursday 23 July for 2 nights. Clearly signed diversions will be in place as below:

  • traffic wishing to access the M25 will be diverted via the A20 London Road eastbound, A225, A2018, A2 eastbound onto the M25 at junction 2
  • traffic wishing to access the A20/M20 will be diverted via the A20 London Road eastbound, A225, A2018, A223 to Crittall’s Corner onto the A20

A282 junction 1a Swanscombe, Kent: Tunnel maintenance work

Work to maintain journeys by carrying out tunnel maintenance will continue this week. The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 8:30pm and 5.30am from Friday 24 July for 2 nights. Work on Friday night will start at 9.30pm. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 1b. In addition, the southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Saturday 25 July for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 1b.

A282 (M25) Dartford – Thurrock Crossing: Maintenance work

Work to improve journeys at the Dartford Crossing will continue this week. The following closures will be in place, with a fully signed diversion for oversized vehicles for the northbound east tunnel closures.

  • Monday 20 July (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
  • Tuesday 21 July (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
  • Wednesday 22 July (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel
  • Thursday 23 July (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel closure
  • Friday 24 July (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound west tunnel closure
  • Saturday 25 July (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound west tunnel closure
  • Sunday 26 July (8.30pm to 5.30am): northbound east tunnel closure

The QEII Bridge will have three (of four) lanes closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Monday 20 July for 7 nights.
